GLFA 300 win mag

I'm on barrel number 4 on my 300wm Sendero, it has "harvested" many critters of all sizes and I like shooting it. This last barrel I melonited I'm hoping to get more that 1000rds (typically where I replaced the previous 3) out of it. I can't imagine a semi-auto 300wm, they are known barrel burners already, and I have a trigger pulling problem.

264wm is more of a barrel burner, but my pre64 has 2,500+ rounds thru it and still shoots good. About 6 years ago I put to rest deciding on what to do with it as winchester won't replace the barrel, but maybe do it on my cost?

First and foremost, the label of 'barrel burner' for the .264 Win. Mag. has been proven to be fallacious for the last couple of decades, more like 4-5 really.

When this cartridge was first released, the powders available were not the best suited to be both economical and cooler burning. Economy of load was the way of the world then as it most certainly is now. Loaded ammunition and reloading data was and is guided by the powder/bullet combinations which provide the most profit for the powder and ammunition companies obviously.

The initial glory of the Winchester Westerner lost some of its luster due to poor reloading choices by the manufacturers looking for the longer range as advertised. But, as soon as this was discovered, the non-commercial (you and me) reloaders began the search for improved loading data which helped with the longevity of the barrels, not the claims by the manufacturer.

The current state of powder development has increased the barrel life of the .264 Win. Mag. through availability of those better powders and the continuing education of reloaders worldwide through the written texts as well as the terrific forums such as LRH.

Let this stupid label die once and for all.

Just like other labeled in the same manner (300wm) with newer powders. I can say my 264wm had a healthy feeding on imr4831 (61.3grs) for sierra 140sbt in my pre64). Better powder blends along with better steel should help. I doubt I ever shoot out any barrel as I don't shoot that much, just have more guns to spread yhe love

What ammo were you using? And how did it feed and eject? I'm getting closer to buying 1 or 2. What I'll do is change 1 barrel to a 264wm, but wish there was more than 5 round mags. Still would be lots of fun!

180 grain federal. (Blue box) shot five rounds. Fed and ejected 5 rounds with out complaints. Glass will be mounted up here soon.

Ya these come with a 1:8 in them also in the 243. Triggers are very stiff but I'll dive into one this winter and see if a standard trigger falls in or if I'll just have to get to work on the one it came with.

I have this gun in the 308 and 270. First thing I did was replace the triggers. I purchased Rise triggers from Optics Planet. They make 2 stage and single stage triggers for ARs. I have installed at least a dozen of these triggers in various ARs and never had any issues. They come with anti roll pins and will require the safety switch to be removed to install them. They break clean at 3.5 to 4 lbs all day and have a very short reset with virtually no over travel.
Try one and you'll be hooked.

I never updated but it didn't make it long and I also added a rise trigger. To this and my 300 win mag. Great triggers

Any word on the 10 round mag they were working on for this?

I sent an Email asking. And was told June on the five rounders. And they will start working on a ten rounder when things slow down. l have been upgrading mine. I could see the buffer had dings in it from being test fired. Had to install a Galloway off set buffer pin. Installed a Strike Industries extended charging latch. Can't upgrade the charging handle because it is extra long. Had to trim the factory roll pin in the latch because it was too long. And it was digging into the receiver. Installed a LMT Muzzle brake because I shoot prone sometimes. And don't want to be kicking up dust. Went with a Luth PRS stock. Because you can adjust the cheek riser back to clear the long charging handle. Can't use a standard Ambi safety selector because on one side the receiver is beefed up and has clearance issues. Also installed a Larue MBT Straight bow trigger, Luth grip and Tubbs Flat wire buffer spring. BCG has a roll pin that you have to punch out to remove firing pin. Which I'm not crazy about. Cam pin looks like a normal 308 one. Sent email and they said they weren't sure. I ordered a POF roller cam pin. Will install after I break it in. Cam pins seam to get wear marks at first. Not sure if a ten round magazine won't be too long. I would be happy with a seven of eight rounder. Shouldn't be mag dumping a 300 Win Mag. Especially since it has a stainless steel barrel. Listened to a pod cast where the factory Rep said gun will shoot one moa or less. It's medium profile barrel . So getting it hot probably would open up the groups. Went with a Meopta Optica 6 5-30X56 scope with cantilever Spuhr mount. Will try and get it out to the range this weekend.

Went to the range to break in the barrel. And to sight in the scope. It went perfectly. Bought eight pounds of MP700 from American Reloading for $179 delivered. (Very similar to Accurate Magpro.) I read that ball powders burn cooler and barrel life is longer because ball powder burns cooler vs. stick. 10% to 20% longer life. Down size is ball powders tend to be not as accurate. Still working on load development. But one MOA is wear I'm at right now. Been saving brass from the range. Had to buy small based sizing dies because it has a tight chamber. And some of the used brass that I picked up wouldn't chamber after sizing with a full length sizing die. Purchased one thousand 185 grain Berger VLD Bullets off of Gunbroker for $300. Recoil was not an issue at all. After listening to videos regarding the Nemo AR in 300 win mag. Will be searching for a node around 2650-2900 FPS. At 72 grains ejecting was at 3-4 o'clock. So loaded up some rounds today. Slightly hotter. Right now it's starting to get really humid in Alabama. And I don't like it when my rifle turns into a big wet piece of steel. Will update as I work through the load development.

Well I installed the POF roller cam pin. Way smoother. No resistance now. I normally use a very light gun grease instead of oil on my AR15s and AR10s BCGs. But this rifle burns off it off after only ten rounds. So now I use Mobile one Synthetic grease. Same stuff I use on my AK and Garand. Still working up a load. Now that it is broken in. Will update soon.

your on your way man. thats awesome work up. factory loads are ejecting about the same on mine as well.
