300 win mag

I shoot the same rifle... the only bullet that seems to work for mine is the Berger 190 gr HVLD with H4381SC powder... the H1000 didn't work for me nor did the heavier bullets.

.72 is on the way... I know you're looking for under 0.5. I should say that I also work my brass over as much as anyone. I anneal after every load, thin the case necks if they need it, bump the shoulder with a full length sizing die only when it needs it, trim when they need it to the same length, clean my cases after at least every 2 firings, chamfer the case mouths, and clean and uniform the primer pockets. I don't weight sort my brass. Also use Norma brass and BR-2 primers for the 300 WM load. I use Lapua brass for some other loads for other rifles with the same or better results. The best one that I posted is .21 moa but I have other rifles that do in the teens. I don't pay anyone to work over my rifles, I do that myself without the benefit of a lathe or sophisticated tools. You get out of them what you put into them and it pays to be anal about these things. I use all of my rifles for hunting and I do not compete. Wish I had more time to fiddle with these things cause it is fun to see good results... and the looks on most of the guys faces at the gun club when they see my targets. Post your results...

Hey Sqearl,
Do you shoot right-handed? What is your setup for shooting...are you off a bench...do you use bags or a sled? Do most of your groups look similar to this one i.e. is there one flyer like this one or do you get cloverleafs? Is the flyer a clean or cold bore shot? If that one flyer was grouped in the other two you would be golden. Just trying to figure out that flyer for you.

Right handed Caldwell rock or what ever it's called My anchor points may not always be exact but yes once in a while I get that flyer

OK,
You got any sandbags...I make them out of the bottom of the legs of my old jeans. Try using sandbags...one for the front and one for the back. Often times a sled can contribute to misses or flyers. I was having some trouble with that years ago and a friend of mine from Taranaki NZ suggested that I go with sandbags and a firm grip on the fore end of the rifle. Of note is that I was a Jarhead with an expert badge at one time and I was no slouch but the sandbags and the firm grip made the difference for me. Don't use my sled anymore. If you get a chance...give it a try you might be surprised. More like hunting anyway as I always go over my pack, a tree branch, a knee, or whatever is handy.

I would check using the tight patch method to make sure it's a 10 twist, some are not always what they claim. I've shot a bunch of 10 twist with the 210, 212 and 215 and havent had a problem. That being said the 215 and 210 were more accurate, may wanna give Bergers 200 20X a try.

every rifle is a bit different and I have had several 300 Win Mags over the years. With my current rifle it shoots the 210gr VLD much better than any other bullet I tested. H1000 was the most accurate powder

Great information from all of you thank you guys very much
Yes this is a hunting gun that is still like to be able to reach out with
I have a Browning Xbolt long range .300WM and am struggling to get that perfect load too. Best I can get is just under 1 moa 3 shot at 100yds with Berger 210 and H1000. Did you find a load that worked for your browning?

Danny B.,
Browning seems to be aggressive in twist rates for some of their cartridges or rifle.

EX. My 6.5 PRC Browning X-Bolt Pro has a 1:7 twist for the heavier bullets they think we will be using for that cartridge.
Its OK by me IF my new X-Bolt Pro shoots well. Been SO daymn hot here in Las Vegas (yesterday 110 F., today 107 F.) that I haven't been to the range to shoot it yet.
But all my previous Brownings have been very accurate.

Eric B.
