Favorite Deer Rifle

Winchester model 70 XTR Featherweight
.270 Winchester, 130 gr TTSX @ 3050fps. Leupold 4.5-14x.
I saved up my money and my dad purchased in 1982 for me when I was 12. I've hunted with every year since and have taken a deer per year on average. There was only one year I didn't hunt with it because I was hospitalized with Covid (close call for me). My son used it that year and took a nice buck.
It's been a great gun.

M1 Garand with irons and the good ole .30-06.
Just loaded some 130 TTSX this week over Tac, Lapua brass, and WLR. Great load. I got 3150 at the starting load. Found a high (3255fps) load and a low one at 3165. Sensitive on seating depth for sure!

Sako L579 Forrester given to me by my uncle around 2000. He purchased it in early 60's as a .243 and shot the bbl out on woodchucks. Had Flaigs (anyone remember them?) put a new .243 bbl on it and I shot woodchucks for years with it. Once they leagalized rifles for deer here I put a new bbl on it in .338 federal and have been deer hunting ever since with it. Since put a custom stock on it along with Timney trigger. Tiny, light action, great looking with lots of history behind it. 200 gn hornadys work great on deer also!
Very nice, love Sakos

1989 Winchester m70 Black shadow in 30-06 IMR 4350 with a midrange load with Nosler 180BTs. just seems to lay them down no matter how big and far say with in 400 every time and for me seems to be Lazer guided, missed only one real long shot many years ago and never missed one running with it. I have plenty of others I take for walk once in a while. they work ok.
