I've killed five deer so far this year. Four of the five were killed by a different rifle each time. First kill, doe using 6.5 Grendel, second deer, doe. Using Browning B78 in 25-06. Number three eight point using CA arms Ridge line in 7-08. Last two, Winchester1885 high wall in .405 Win. Guess I don't have a favorite.

I had a Ruger m77 mark 2 wood/blued in 25-06 that I loved but like a darn fool I traded it. After a year without it I knew I had to have another ruger 25-06. My only complaint or want really was a stainless rifle that I could use and not feel bad about in any conditions.
This m77 Hawkeye stainless 25-06 came available the beginning of this year and I spent no time to make a deal on it.
The 25-06 and hammer combo is my favorite on whitetails it's flat, accurate and hits deer very hard.

If you want to see a deer frog stomped by a firearm hit it with a .405 Win using a 250 Shock hammer at 23 hundred feet per second. It's impressive!
A friend was fond of his number one ruger in 405 Winchester on deer. I don't recall what bullets he was using but he always said the fold up like a cheap lawn chair when he hit them.

Only one bullet available unless you use hammer. Hornadys 300 grain pointed soft point. I've got some of them loaded to 2340. It really hurts to touch one off. The 250 Hammer at 2200 runs out of fun at about five shots. I'm told they can be pushed to 2600, if I was hunting elk or bears I'd try it. Only have to shoot it once. You can use a 210 grair 41 mag XTP but I'm told accuracy is exceptable, but not great. It's a true.410 dia. Instead of 411. 412 cast bullets can't be pushed very fast without a gas check, which you can't find.
