Favorite deer rifle

25-06: Have 5 at present: Rem. 700 1993 MR, added factory laminated stock, 700 CDL SSF, Sako 995 with rare 26" barrel, Ruger 77MKII SS, added factory laminated stock and my 1st one, built in 1966, Mauser FN Supreme action, custom 24" Douglas Premium bbl, Walnut stock, Canjar set trigger. Some day they will go to the grand kids.

My favorite rifle is also 6.5-06, built on Mauser 98 action, boyd stock, 26 inch stainless barrel. It has served me well on mutiple deer and hogs, oryx, antelope, red deer, elk, and numerous varmints.
My favorite as of 5 years ago is a 6.5saum shooting 140 bergers. I'm 67 and have owned lots of good rifles in various calibers but the saum is my all time fav.

Winchester 70 Featherweight 270 WSM
I have that rifle, a 2008 model in 270 wsm as well. It has been my go to as well. But I bedded it in a B&C stock and put in a Timney trigger.
Great rifle and caliber

I've always kept two hunting rifles. A close range levergun and a long range boltgun. These days, I almost always reach for my custom Marlin trapper in 30-30AI and now that I've got a decent load with these new Lever Hammer Bullets, I doubt the 270 will see much action. There's just something about a levergun that feels right to me. It also helps that it slips out of a saddle scabbard a lot easier than a longer barreled and scoped boltgun does. Hopefully I get to take a bear or deer with it this year.

First few days sitting in the the ground blind will have my Ruger model 77 in .264 Winchester Magnum. My walking around gun is a Remington model 700 in a .35 Remington.
Thats a good gun & the cal. is great on deer & black bear. My " walkin round gun ( my grandpa's 1920's Rem Mod 141 - .35 pump ) with 200gr Rem soft round nose bullets inside 150yds was a fast shooting sledgehammer.
