I find it curious there is little to no mention of the grendal so far. Why is that?

Probably because there are quite a few cartridges that far outperform the grendel across multiple platforms and multiple bullet weights whereas the grendel is primarily used in AR platforms with the 123grain bullet being about the biggest bullet you can shoot.

. The ammo I shot was factory Superformance. As I hunt and shoot in the cold with the smaller calibers like the 6.5 Cm, 243, 223 ect. Whichever powder I use in them needs to work well in the cold.
The recorded vel was 1, ,2893. ,2,2933. , 3,,,2932 .
These were shot at 18' from the chrony .
With the rifle being cold the chamber and bore were contracted and I could feel the chamber was snugger. When I chambered the rounds and the were a little stiffer extracting than at say +50 degrees.

The ammo box says 2960 fps. But that may be with a 28" barrel. Mine is a 26 .

The 6.5x47 has been out WAY longer than the 6.5 creed. It has a pretty large following in the tactical crowd. There are a lot more rifles out there than you'd think. They just aren't on the "hot" list anymore as newer & newer cartridges that do essentially the same thing are introduced.

Thanks Outlaw! I hadn't heard about it until recently. I live a sheltered life I know.

The Grendel isn't really a long range round so it makes sense that it's not on the list.
But. The Creed and Sweede should have made it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sling any crap. It's been a good poll. It showes there is quite a variety in the uses of the 6.5 . Some want a general purpose rifle. Some a practical battle configuration and some a super fast Looong range precision round.
I'm in the general purpose catagory.

No worries. I actually do wish I could start it over with some of the other offerings but not practical at this point. I tohought I was limited to 10 options but apparently that has changed. Oh well, I think by the comments and the poll we have a good idea where they stand. and i have learned a good bit from it.

Yeah, I think a 6.5x47 L would make a nice little AR tactical round.

Ya, it would, but is it any more accurate than the Creed? ? It is more expensive .. with it being shorter it would give more flexibility with the CE bullets while fitting the short mag box. I was thinking of the Grendel as a battle rifle round.

The Gendel will take the cake as an AR round, as it was designed for that role. Accuracy between the 6.5x47 & creed will depend upon the platform & shooter. The advantages of the x47 would be Lapua brass, lower capacity & longer neck for extended bbl life & shorter oal.

The creed has more capacity & similar accuracy. The new Hornady brass is reportedly excellent (thank god because Hndy is the only manufacturer). Can get pretty close to the 260 in velocity w/less powder.

My next full on build will be a 6.5x47.

Dont discount the creedmoor guys! Nosler is beginning to make brass and ammo for it and its a terrific AR round that's hanging with bolt guns shooting 1k yrds. The only toss up I see is its a slower round compared to some and for hunting the extra fps can get you more yardage for proper expansion. But this will come with shorter barrel life and brass life.

Just had to lay up my 7mm STW, (waiting on a new barrel) so I'm using my 260 Rem Tikka T3 and not feeling handicapped at all.
For a straight factory rifle it would put some custom rifles to shame and it is not fussy with what you feed it. (the one exception being the 123gr A max.)
Current load is 140gr A max's @2580fps which shoots 1/2" @ 290yds.
Shot a sika hind @409yds last saturday.:)

Regards Steve.
