Moose will most probably be a less than 200 yard shot. I have always had reliable expansion from X bullets and the TSX is supposed to open up easier than the original. I known its not long range. But predators are about the only animal I will shoot long range. I still have lots of load development work to do. So we'll see.

Unless you are talking really long range, my bullet of choice in the 6.5, was, and is, the 140 partition. Killed a lot of bulls with that bullet....Rich

Same here nuthing over 250 yards with the .260 with cows, when it is bulls I take the .300 or the .338.

I think the 140 gr Swift A-frame is worth a try also. If the 6.5 A-frames retain their weight like the bigger ones do.
The Sweede has a good reputation on moose in the Scandinavian countries with the 156 gr RN bullets. Since the Orynx is the only bonded 156 gr 6.5 bullet that I know of and that is only riecent .the 140 Swift at 2650 fps or better should penetrate real well.

I've got a 260 rem. 1895 Browning Low Wall
3, 6.5x55's, Kimber sporterized, Tikka T3, custom 98 mauser / shilen barrel
Just had a .260AAR (6.5x57 improved) built LA Rem 700, Shilen barrel, Choate ultimate varmint stock, still working loads

Has anyone tried the vld's on elk and moose?

Lot's of people have but my recommendation, in a 6.5, is using something with more jacket. (nosler partition or accubond, swift scirroco or a-frame, etc.) When using thin skinned bullets like a vld on elk or moose, it is better to have a larger caliber, heavier bullet IMO...........Rich

Yup Berger 210 in 300 Win or a ultra or a roy or what ever mag platform you have is pretty nice for the bigger stuff. I do so like burgers that come from bergers lol

I think sometimes we forget that these animals are not bullet proof and that only a super XXXL type bullet will do the job, but I agree in that the larger than 6.5mm bullets do perform better on bigger game like Elk/ Moose/ Bear.

208gr A max in .30 cal is a good contender but not as slippery as a 210 Berger.

just my 2 cents!

Regards Steve.

On your list my favorite is the .264wm. I also shoot an AR in .260 Rem. Both are great cartridges and more than capable of deer sized game to 1,000yds with great precision.

Bullet wise the Swift Sirocco is way hard to beat for deer in either, but for heavier bodied animals the Hornady Interbond and Nosler Accubond are great choices.

I'm really looking forwardt o trying the new Nosler Long Range Accubond in both of them.

I don't own a 6.5, nor did I peruse all 26 pages of this thread, but I thought it was curious that the Creedmoor was left out of the poll.
I like to shoot too much to be very interested in barrel thrashing overbores.

It was an oversight. However there are a couple of non-overbore cartridges listed.

A number of folks did post their favor of the Creedmoor along with the 6.5x55 Swede.

Stoky:

You must be on the wrong forum. If you are not interested in barrel "trashing overbores" then 6mm BR or Accurate or 24 hr Campfire must be your forum.

I have yet to wear out a barrel that has been Nitrocarburized. I also use HBN coated bullets exclusively, which may extend the life of barrels.

Yes the 264 Winchester Magnum is hard on barrels. I wore out 3 of those barrels decades ago. They also shoot flat in the wind and are devastating on game animals at long range which is what this forum is about. I find those "barrel thrashing overbores" a lot more interesting to load for than the cartridges I can buy at the local box store. If you shoot once a year at 100 yards then it makes little difference.
