Eradicate the Wolf???!

This just came over the wire so to speak an article form the Casper Star.

Isn't that what hunters do. That is why they are so hard to hunt. The first year they had a quota of 220 wolves in Montana I laughed. After shooting the few tame park wolves the hunting got tough. At seasons end they had killed 166 wolves. They have yet to reach the quota so now there is no quota.

Note that the female Wolf in question was 7 1/2 years old and 80 pounds so much for the 200 lbs theory. I live in wolf country and we run 300 cow calf operation. I also work in the A-B Wilderness north of Yellowstone park packing for the Forest Service.
In 6 years I have seen one wolf outside the park. We have seen sign and heard several more. But since they cleaned out the elk herd they have moved on to where the prey is.
At least half of everything posted above is fake news.

History and Louis and Clark annotated that in NWT history. People starved back then and original Thanksgiving was proof of Indians helping the white man. Then the white man turned on him too and wiped out the Indians, Bison, deer, etc. Catch 22 The wolves will populate, burn out and a order will establish again. Just like a forest burns by electrical storm and provides browse and food for animals again.
unfortunately people like you are used by anti hunters to convince non hunters that all of the hunters are like you and should be banned. You should shut up in order to conserve what you think is your right. You are a detriment to free people.

Diamondback is fortunate those big bad wolves can't read. He'd already be wolf fodder.
I've heard of 1000lb wolves. Doesn't make it so.

Are there bull elk over 400"....PA has nearly 700# black bears.....domestic hogs over a 1000#.....a genetically engineered salmon weighed @150#...
Steelhead topping 35#......a nevada cougar at 220# and i saw it..it was really old and scarred so badly I wouldnt have mounted it..paws big as my face... freeking nightmare come to life.........
Wolves pulling hibernating bears from dens and eating them....i would say that would have to be a big wolf...and more than likely a few of them....

Genetics have a say in what can grow and just how much it can grow....
I don't doubt the weights on those wolves....if someone wants to round up..fine...
When critters exercise alot muscles build quickly...it takes lots of food to keep those muscle big...

Here is a wolf shot near Drayton Valley, just north of my Uncle's.

It weighed in at 197lbs.

I know geography is relative, but we are by no means 'far north'...

Then again, biologists must know better than locals, right?
I haven't read the last two pages prior to this photo. Simply, cause I can't stand it. Haha
That's a bid sumbigun.
I was raised on the 49th parallel. A field goal below it actually.
Nothin directed to anyone in particular but this thread is almost a Van Helsing matter at this point.
Wolves suck and they are here, they are chickenchite and hunt in packs:rolleyes:(one cougar against a one wolf, I know how I'm bettin).
I admit to gettin all my emotions an low T at the age of 47 around this subject, but if we don't pull are heads out and come up with better ways than ibuprofen(I need it, canines can't handle 500mg.)we've already lost. Some folks on this thread have tried already, to bring the thinking around. Let's all band together for the greater cause.
Ya can't blame a dog for being a dog. o_O

I don't know if these are the same wolf as the ones we used to have or not. I don't ever remember seeing an old picture of a black one. Any one have one? I would be interested in seeing it. If we've had wolves all along why did the elk populations grow so big and then crash with wolf reintroduction? Wolves seem to target moose. They are virtually gone in Idaho's wilderness area. I've heard NW Wyoming populations are suffering too. Why didn't this happen before?
The Wyoming moose herds suffering is being blamed on a weevil. But that's only what I heard. Haha
Seriously, that's what the game and fish is trying to sale. The Bighorns are the only mt. range the weevil hasn't effected yet. Supposedly, they dropped the harvest numbers to help the rest of then state to recover, if needed; through transplant.
Funny Fact: Bighorns don't have a confirmed pack. YET

Wasn't brain worm an issue in one of the Big Horn sheep ranges?

I read a report about cadmium poisoning being detected in moose and how ticks and brain worm were causing a down turn in some moose populations.

Then TB in elk, CWD in deer...

Hmmm that non GMO/hormone free steer standing in the back corral....looks kinda tasty...

Well, the wolf does-did have a purpose. Like it's already been said, they keep the herd moving and take care of the sick.
In a obscure way of looking at all this, I have reflected back on the past 35 plus years of hunting, and reflecting on how I have shared it with a growing wolf population for more than half - the wolf has made me a better hunter. Guess the Apex in me is just shining through.
Through being apart of this thread I have reflected on personal experiences with the wolf, in the beginning of that my blood boiled. Then I found a little guilt for some things I've done to hamper their progression that I'm actually embarrassed about. Guerrilla warfare needs to be saved for the footsteps of congress.
So before anymore comments are made about this or that, maybe relflect and ask yerself if ya deserve a petting zoo to hunt in or actually want to get out of the SUV and go hunt.
Thanks to all those who maturely responded to this thread, you helped me think about not being a pot stirrer(it's fun:rolleyes:). I know better. SOMETIMES :D

I am seeing posts that essentially, call for the eradication of wolves, Any of us that hunt and consider ourselves conservationists in any way and part of a bigger system than ourselves, see about as much sense in that, as the eradication of the American bison. The biological system that God created, is in a balance and has been for much longer than humanity has existed. I came to the conclusion that I will never forgive those that used governmental policy and business interests to decimate the bison and just hope that each of us can look at what we see as a nuisance species and still see God's place for them.
Yeah, yeah, I know the place for them is at the tip of my 130gn GMX bullet, but you folks know what I'm saying. Cheers
We call ourselves Conservationists and Hunters so why are we calling for the irradiation of one on the greatest natural hunters on our contentment ? We have greatly reduced their natural hunting territory to only a fraction of it's original scope so that now they have a hard time surviving on what is left.

Wolves did belong on the landscape and were perfectly in balance before WE showed up. So soon as we get rid of Us and our creature comforts, the wolves will serve their purpose. People who yell the loudest usually have the biggest foot print and consume the most goods and services. I always say look in the mirror.
But since Humans are not going anywhere, now all the game animals are concentrated in tiny areas compared to before our arrival. For an Apex predator it is shooting fish in a proverbial barrel and they should have never been re introduced in my humble opinion.

.......We call ourselves Conservationists and Hunters so why are we calling for the irradiation of one on the greatest natural hunters on our contentment ?.........

.............Maybe because the entire process was a total fraud, and failed to follow the laws, and processes that made the American model of conservation the great success it was. A process that was not based on basic biologic concerns such as canine reproductive rate. A process that refused to consider the impact on other species, interests, and concerns. A process in which we paid the freight, and had no voice, until it got loud, radical, and threatening to the political system.
