Eradicate the Wolf???!

Wolves are God's creatures. Hunt them, hell yeah. Exterminate them, no.

If the wolf population has increased 300% since 2011, what has happened to the elk population?
GoHunt has some information, but not completely up to date.

Those reports of 200# wolves are outright lies. Isn't a 120# wolf Freighteningly big enough? Why believe made up stories on the internet?

These wolves eat a lot. I don't believe in 200+ lbs wolves. Colorado has plenty of elk, so I am not worried if the NWT burns some elk population and wolves cut into the elk herds by biologists up in NWT. Let it happen. The wolves will follow the food sources. The map shows the pack locations. They killed a lot of the Yellowstone herd of what it used to originally be.

I don't know much about all that. If those numbers are accurate, I'd be worried though.

All I can contribute is that Alberta has too many wolves. The most recent target number I've seen is 4000. Bare in mind, Alberta occupies the area of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado combined...

In fact, 50 were recently relocated to the southwest corner of the province, with the expectation that they will run over the border and help with 'reintroduction' efforts. No kidding, we're 'helping'!

Last I looked, haven't done any wolf related work in a while..Canada had about 60,000 wolves, probably more, which occupied 90 % of the historical range.

Save for a small percentage of Canada, they are considered a Big game animal and has trapping seasons...

I don't know if these are the same wolf as the ones we used to have or not. I don't ever remember seeing an old picture of a black one. Any one have one? I would be interested in seeing it. If we've had wolves all along why did the elk populations grow so big and then crash with wolf reintroduction? Wolves seem to target moose. They are virtually gone in Idaho's wilderness area. I've heard NW Wyoming populations are suffering too. Why didn't this happen before?

I believe there can be wolves over 200 pounds. Its not the norm. But very good chance there are wolves that big and bigger.

A 120 pound is still a good sized wolf thou. And can do a lot when you think about a 35 to 45 pound coyote.

Do you think wolves can get to be 175 and 180??

I don't think there has ever been a documented 200# wolf. Rearden, Alaska's wolf man, talks about one that supposedly weighed that but I don't think it was documented. I've seen a 150# wolf and it was plenty big. I guess since they an eat 40# of meat at one meal 200# isn't out of the question.

There was a reliably documented 175# wolf in AK.
If someone shot a 200# wolf i think there would be better documentation. Those wolf photos of supposed 200+ size wolves remind me of the classic "fishing pose" to make your fish look bigger.

Again, a couple 120# wolves are completely capable of killing everything in north America.

Why aren't wolves the only living thing on the planet? Somehow 10 years ago all was good. Now they are about to wipe out every living thing on the north American continent in the next few years. Given this wisdom the North American continent would have been barren when the white man arrived.

Some people should stop and try to think about what they are saying. Good grief Charlie Brown.

Steve. I can agree with that. My question is this. Can wolves have the same problem as Prairie Dogs? How about coyotes?

Get so many in a given area they get sick and die off for a bit. Then spring back up in numbers?

I do wish though they would let you hunt them like coyotes.

years back we used to raise wolves. And the big Alaskan timber wolf males hand no problems hitting 175 pounds... Interesting thing is the pure breds were bigger then the ones we had that were mixed with Alaskan malamutes.

They would stand on their hind legs and put there paws on my dads shoulders and their heads would be above his head. My dad is 6'..

The wolves will populate, and a order will establish again. Man is their only enemy that could stop them. I don't think limited hunting them will put a dent in their population or impact anything. They have too much going for them.

It's the kind of thing you have to see to believe, I guess :D
