Opening up the bolt face is not a big deal on the 700 action. At worst you swap bolt bodies.IMO that would be more trouble than its worth. The 257 has a standard bolt face and the PRC needs a magnum bolt face.
Saw a really nice custom 280AI built on a Model 70 action recently over on GB or Armslist... .yes that is probably the most practical this to do....leaning back 280 something now...
Sounds about right. Less than what it would cost to put a similar rig together and without the 6mos to 2 year wait.Saw it I think ...2K
I'm looking at 800 to use my 700 35 Whelen = 280 AISaw it I think ...2K
I've been hearing great things about Greyboe.I'm looking at 800 to use my 700 35 Whelen = 280 AI
But then I will need a stock. Usaly you can pick up an used HS precision for 350 or less
Heavy.......wildcat composites or ag composites, nice stocks, very light, and won't break the the bank.I've been hearing great things about Greyboe.
Have it blueprinted and trued, and have the smith put on a 26" 1:8 twist 6.5mm barrel, chambered for 6.5 Sherman. My doner gun is an older model 700 Remington Classic in 35 whelen made back when Remington cared. I would like to have a lighter weight hunting rifle that shoots 6.5 or 7mm 140 grn pills 3000+ FPS but not burn the the barrel out after 700-800 rounds. I might add I already have:
1) remy custom 6.5 CM 22 in bartlein barrel varmint contour
2)Stiller TAC30 in 260 24 in bartlein barrel not sure which contour but its a little thicker than the varmint. This one has a heavy Manners stock
3) Mod 700 5r Mil spec in 308
All the above are pretty heavy just wanting something lighter to hunt with and occasionally punch paper.
Thx guys
