So just thought I would update everyone. So a friend of mine wants to trade me a m700 257 roberts for my m700 35 whelen. Thinking about getting his short action and building a 6.5 PRC
Anybody ever loaded for a 6.5 PRC ? Are they finicky ?

Nothing I've seen, read, or heard indicates that they are, in fact the lack of same is part of the appeal.
It seems you are a tinkerer.
Have you considered having a Switch Lug installed?
Me personally, I'd switch lug that 700 LA & .280AI it.
Then it's just a barrel & maybe bolt change when you get bored with the .280AI, ( even though it will kill everything in NA big enough to die that don't have big teeth), & you are shooting something else.

Was going to do a PRC--but the appeal fell before I finished ( already have 2 6.5-284s) if you do...do it on a long action as if you do it on a short you will always be a max OAL on your SA box. A Tikka would be a good standard action to start from.
IMO that would be more trouble than its worth. The 257 has a standard bolt face and the PRC needs a magnum bolt face.

I agree with @Kimber7man - usually make more sense to find an action that works for what you want to do vs. having a smith open the bolt face.
