Carnivore diet ...

I kid.

Depends what you're trying to do. I don't do any of the sugars or fruit, but I do what I call "ketoviore."
Where the fibrous carbs out nets the starch carbs.

Sometimes if I see a little softness in my muscles then I switch back to full carnivore to kill off that extra few % body fat to keep the status quo. Been doing it that way for a long time. Just make sure you adjust saturated fat intake to your activity level. Once you're around or below 12% it's become really hard to maintain and the stricter you have to be, especially after 40.
I know you are.

Interestingly, I eat less now, and without crashing. I am simply trying to reduce/alleviate my carb/sugar and ultraprocessed food intake. I am well past 40. LOL!

where would be a good source for the carnivore diet information. I'm thinking about trying it to loose weight, get sugar in check and just get healthier. So many sites, just wondering what reference Fenix and the rest of you have used. Thanks in advance.

I am not following any carnivore diet. My parents were in the meat market business for over 4 decades, I grew up eating meat. Yes, there are a few out there. Good luck!

I've been doing versions of this before it had a name all the way back starting around jr high wrestling, even though back then I didn't know exactly what I was doing or why it worked.

Later as a young marine, most information was found in fitness magazines and body building forums. It was just a high protein diet and eating clean.

Now, it has a name, and a community following that doesn't spread misinformation about it being "unhealthy."

Good source would be Dr. Ken Berry and his wife, Dr Shawn Baker, Andrew Huberman also has some different takes on it, Dr. Rhonda Patrick also.

Dr. Mike Israetel who's a bodybuilder has some pros and cons (generalities) related to that space and the muscle growth process. There's a lot of information out there nowadays.

It's dinner time...

It's not hardcore; I'm just trying it out. It's only been 2 months. My wife is not entirely happy; she is more concerned that I do not have a balanced diet, and she brought it up to my oncologist on my last follow-up. My oncologist did not restrict me to any diet or alcohol intake. He said everything in moderation. After 3+ years since my cholangiocarcinoma, all my liver panels, blood tests, and ultrasound are good. In addition, my primary care doctor on base has no issues with my diet. Below is my typical breakfast (this morning). Yesterday, I had 12 oz of steak but no eggs.

I gave up carbohydrates, and my diet comprises 90% protein. I still eat fruit and vegetables and have been juicing and making my bone broths. I was not trying to lose weight, but thus far, I have lost 10 pounds and 2" on my waist without physical training/conditioning changes. It appears that I also have more energy throughout the day.

So far, so good. It is not for everybody ...just sharing. Cheers!
My wife does the carnivore but zero veggies or 🍎 fruit no carbs, omg the eggs 🥚 lol meanwhile I'm high in veggies 🥗 low on carbs, LOW fat (except for steak 🥩 I refuse) small meat 🥩 portions, lots of shrimp 🍤 😃 we both do a lot of bone broth ❗😀 good luck on your challenge !

I feel the best when I eat only meat/eggs and fermented vegetables, no carbs and no sugar. I went on a several month stretch last year and it was great. Fell off that wagon over the holiday season. Working back into it now. I think we were designed to eat seasonally too but that is difficult to do. Where are you guys finding pork rinds that aren't fried in seed oil?

Awesome job on the weight loss!

I'm down 60 lbs this year. High protein diet as well 200g per day, plus around 100g of fats and carbs. Pretty much stuck to dark greens over other types of vegetables. Only cook now with butter, evoo, avocado, coconut, tallow or lard.

I've had help from TRT and Metformin as well. When I started my weight loss journey, I was 91% insulin resistant and my testosterone was below 300. At 6 months they had to reduce both the Metformin and Testosterone as I dropped my IR to under 30% and my T count was over 1500. I go in next Thursday to do my first annual.

Hitting my protein goals has helped me to avoid over eating. It has also curbed the cravings for carbs. Make sure to get your water intake in as well.

I'm glad I did something to take back control. I feel better than I have since probably my 30s and have way more energy. I'm pretty sure I don't have sleep apnea anymore, and hope to ditch the CPAP soon.

I'm a carnivore for 1 year on the 12th of this month. I have always loved meat and eggs and trained with a person that advocated keto, wtih a twist. I would eat protein for 3 days and on the 4th day carb load with complex carbohydrates (potatoes, corn, bread, pasta). I would take quite a bit of supplements, and especially desiccated liver tablets. This is how body builders traditionally would build muscle prior to cheaters like Schwarzenegger, Draper, Columbo, Ferrogno, et al...

I see you're drinking juice. I try to stay away from juice, but have been eating some fruit, ala Paul Saladino. I try to stick to low sugar fruits, like grapefruit, cantalope, and berries (blueberries, black berries, rasberries, etc...). Did you blend the fruit yourself? If so, that's probably not as bad. I try to stay away from seed oils, but it's almost impossible as my wife uses a lot of canola oil. I try to cook with avocado oil.

RE: energy

I couldn't agree more, I swim a mile a day, 5 days a week. I typically don't eat until after I swim, just taking vitamins prior to swimming. In the past I would eat a soft boiled egg before going to the gym, but I don't these days.

The other thing is I don't snack nearly as much as I used to. Sometimes I'll eat some cheese or nuts, and one fruit I like that has a fair amount of sugar is bananas, they help prevent cramps from swimming. I think it's the potassium, not sure, but avocado is also good.

My breakfast looks pretty identical to yours meat and eggs, and I mix around with different meats. My wife is Japanese and they often serve a soft egg over their food. There's a shortage on eggs out west, we'er limited to 2 dozen a customer. I went in twice to get 4 dozen. My son got a couple more. That may last me and him a week.

One of my faves has always been fresh homemade bread with eggs, any type, deviled, over easy, scrambled, omelette, poached, etc...I can bake artisan bread by myself, but haven't been eating it.

Now, my wife eats a lot of carbs and snacks a lot, some processed, some not...but we just got her blood test back, and her cholesterol is through the roof. Her glucose is also high, but her blood pressure is super low. I don't know if it's danger or not, she's visiting her mom (97) who is in the hospital on life support. When it rains it pours, but I will say this...I'm continuing to be a carnivore, and figure 250 lbs. of meat will tide me through a year at 1 lbs. per day.

I have dropped over 100 lbs since the pandemic. 80 lbs since last Feb 12th. I'm ready for a black bear. Game meat is my favorite of all meat.

Curious, has anyone made their own biltong? I bought some that was pretty good. Evidently it's not smoked, but air dried with spices. The stuff I had was not very salty. I got the stuff with fat. It's not cheap, hence why I was asking if anyone has made their own?

If you are referring to the fruit juice in my first post, I was experimenting with it. I do, however, make juice to help with detoxification. It comprises beets, ginger roots, turmeric, lemons, cucumber, celery, parsley, pomegranate, 3-4 oz first thing in the morning, 3X a week.
