Carbon Fiber Barrel Accuracy

2 Carbons for me so far. Sold on them. They have been awesome. My 6.5-284 proof has grown .001 in 1000 rounds. Accuracy has always been very good. My new rifle is a 6.5 creedmoor with proof. For a hunting rifle I will probably never do another standard barrel.

All my hunting rifles have Proof Research barrels on them. They all shoot sub half MOA. My 6.5 Creedmoor is 1/4 MOA to 600 yards. That is a s far as I have taken it. The range at the gun club doesn't go past that.

It is a cut rifled steel barrel and that is all the bullet ever see's. They then remove material from the steel barrel blank so they have space to wrap carbon fiber around the steel barrel profile. The carbon fiber never comes into contact with the bore. So like any steel barrel cut rifled, CHF, Button, Broached the limiting factor is normally throat erosion and crown erosion. The reason Proof barrels are accurate is because just like Krieger and Brux they make very good cut rifled steel barrels. I have yet to see any research performed by a third party engineering firm that their carbon wrapping of the steel barrel they make actually does anything that is statistically significant repeatable way. Kind of like carbon fiber shift paddles in your BMW does not make the car any faster it is just man jewelry. You have to differentiate yourself from the large pool of custom barrel makers some how! Price is one way and gimmicks are another.

I like them enough to buy more of them!

No, they remove metal and replace it with carbon so they can give the the rigidity of a heavy contour barrel while keeping it lightweight, allowing you to have benchrest accuracy in a hunting platform. A huge advancement in technology for hunters and more than just a marketing ploy.

My custom 6.5 Creedmor has a proof research barrel and I can out shoot my green mt. Barrel chambered in 260 Remington my buddy's factory ruger American has no chance against the proof barrel as seen on the 800 yd gongmy cluster against his on the orange line his all over the steel plate. My target at 100 yds shoots 1/4" groups.

Here is a three shot 200 yard group I shot with my 6.5 Creedmoor. It was last Thanksgiving morning. I had just put a new scope on it, and wanted to zero it. It was real close to time to go eat lunch with my family. I shot that group, made one click right, and one click up, then I just put it in the case. I haven't shot it since. Need to, just been really busy. I'll definitely do it before this fall, just to confirm.

I had CF barrels with Mike D. before Greg stepped in and Proof was made. I had issues back then and I have to give Greg all of the credit. Greg made things right and I would not hesitate to purchase a Proof since Greg has been in charge. Greg is a shooter and he knows accuracy. I just wish I could afford them. I think things are much better and with more companies coming on board with C/F, prices may change somewhat. I will say that if a barrel company is doing the C/F route, there is more involved than just spinning a barrel and wrapping it with CF. Proof does know the process and I have heard very good things about Carbon Six. I will have to save my pennies for one.

I have a Proof on my 300 wm and absolutely LOVE IT! It's my first one and I thought the same, not as accurate, but I was wrong!! Go for it!
