Bullet for elk hunting.

Nice! In that case any of our current 30 cal offerings would be good options. The other two are the 144gr and 153gr. If it were me, personally, I'd probably still stick with the 135gr for all around best performance out of the 308 Win, but you wouldn't be wrong going with any of the three.
Thank you for the advice and feedback I'll definitely look into those bullets.

Hey everyone got a elk hunt coming up soon and trying to figure out the best bullet for it. I prefer to buy from small businesses. Rifle is a 308 win with a 24" barrel. What do you guys recommend?
Thanks!
Barnes 168ttsx - great bullet and on the higher end in weight for your rifle which creates more down range energy for you. I actually shoot this bullet out of my 300win for elk et al.

I love hammers but if I was in a hurry I would grab some factory loaded norma bondstrike , accubond or even some 180 grain ballistic tips any of these work fine out of a 308

Norma bondstrike *SEEMS* like a very legitimate contender. My only concern is you say out to 500 and with a 308 that's probably pushing the envelope in terms of a 308 having enough velocity for reliable expansion with some of these bullets. If you trust Berger's the 180 elite Hunter is probably THE bullet. You might check with unknown munitions to see if they have anything of that sort. Personally I'd say ~400 yards and run a 180 accubond or bondstrike.

Berger 156 grain handloads out of my 6.5 PRC dropped an Eland (280 yards), a Zebra (350 yards) a Kudu (90 yards) a Impala (180 yards) and a Bushbuck (145 yards) all with one shot on my June Safari in South Africa.

My first two bowls I shot with a 308. Not sure what type bullet was but they had a silver tip. I would go at least 180s and something that's going to hold together. When I first started hunting out Colorado that's the biggest rifle I had. The only shells I had for it or Remington core locks 150. The first boy I shot with that I hit him six times starting at 50 yards and he just walked about a 120 before he fell. The second year it was two shots with the 180 grain. Then I went to a 300 win mag 180 grain accubond. 150 grain core locks didn't even make it inside the rib cage it looked like fine shot just under the hide.
