Berger 153.5 Hybrid bullets for Hunting

Bergers usually don't start expanding until approx 4" of penetration so they're never going to be a good choice for groundhogs
Never say never!
Here is a groundhog that was violently hit with a 300 grain Berger (OTM) from my 26" 338LM at 50 yards. This very heavy Berger target bullet

opened up quite well on a this groundhog!
So much for just penciling through...

Come to think of it the "varmint match" 22 cal 52 or 53 gr bullets were alittle too explosive for yotes. I bet they'd be great for rats and PD's. I'll look and see if I have any left and load them in the AR. Rats are out in force right now.

It's not my go to round for varmints, but these guys damage the foundations of my buildings so he became a target of opportunity! Interestingly, I had to go for an alternate offhand sling position on the steps of my deck where I do my prone targeting.
Haha yeah I get it
I used to hunt them with an SKS shooting fmjs when I was in high-school.
It was amazing how those chucks would pop from a non expanding 123 grain bullet

I set my prc up for the 156 Berger initially, then went to the 153.5's when they came out. I use them exclusively in it. They are a very good, high bc, accurate long range bullet. Probably not the best choice for hunting larger game, but with correct shot placement they will work.
