Barbour Creek student take antelope @ 1507 yards

would be nice if people followed the rules. they have turned what once was the original long range site into just another social media hangout to badmouth others ideas, leaving only one long range site left.
I know, however I believe it is our responsibility to continue reminding folks and calling out the rule violators or it will only get worse.

totally agree. was just on the other site there is actual posts on long range hunting, wildcat development, gun builds all the stuff that was the bread and butter here but now is sadly missing, also see a lot of the members that used to be here but no longer post, just have to wonder why

Where did I say I was a clinical professional? you are dyslexic. Now I do have a close relationship with a clinical psychologist though.
I can honestly say I've shot with a good number of tier one and SF guys and none have talked like this, but then again, they are team players and willing to learn and teach. I'm glad the point of the spear is much sharper than this nonsense.

I don't think this is accurate, "posts on long range hunting, wildcat development, gun builds all the stuff that was the bread and butter here but now is sadly missing". This comment is exaggerated for sure. It's all here and active. There's just a lot more sites available now and technology is changing rapidly. There didn't used to be much competition in these type of sites, now there are numerous of them. When I joined this was about the only one, not anymore. I think this a great community of members and it's just more difficult and EXPENSIVE for the owners to run. All the sites have their strengths and weakness. JMO and sorry to go off the rail for a second.

Things have changed on this site IMO in the last couple of years for sure. During Covid and shortages members worked together to get over rough times. No real scamming took place like now. We were just behind what was happening on other social media sites. Now kinda reminds me of Brad Paisley song "Online" with words I'm so much cooler on line. A lot easier to hide or be able to hide behind screen names with comments than to state opinion and have a rational discussion. This is still a great site, but just hard to keep that element out of anything. Met some incredible people here in person, on the phone and via internet. I have always believed everything is cyclical and this is just a bad cycle. Sorry for the comments.

yes, there is other sites and members can post freely wherever they wish but why don't they post here. not talking about someone asking for load data for a wildcat, i am talking the designers of wildcats. plenty of quality gunsmiths here but where are the ones that design and develop shooting systems except from the occasional one from Kerby or James the rest left. and most of the time if someone posts a true long range kill the same thing happens that happened on this thread it turns into an ethics battle which is totally forbidden.

this site is where i started my long range journey. kept quiet for 3-4yrs before joining and even then never tried to push my ethics on anyone, followed the rules and accepted that my way wasn't the only way. really wish it would come back around to what it was in the beginning.

How far did he make it before dropping?
Like I said he DROPPED. Its my fault for engaging with a self proclaimed internet expert. I am a trapper and a hunter, but my old pappy was a poacher. I have personally killed maybe 5 or 6 hundred critters I have trapped ranging from sunks and possums coon beaver coyote bobcat with 22 subsonics. Even a feral wolf, now the wolf took more than one shot but it was close to 90 pounds I would say. My late father had killed more deer with a 22 than a dump truck could haul in his misspent youth.
There is a reason it is widely held as the poacher's weapon of choice.
We have put down a whole pile of hogs with a 22, including a over 300 pound wild boar. My family used to slaughter their beef cattle with a 22lr.
You claim to have shot a coyote with a 22 yourself, but I think you fail to understand it's effectiveness. Or maybe you're not the expert you claim to be.

So have Chris and Len quit policing the posts here on LR Hunting? If so it's a very sad day and we are about to slip into just another internet Facebook type forum. I wish I could offer my services as a moderator but I'm covered up with work and I pretty much stay that way.

All we need to do is use the "Report" button when we see something not within the rules of the forum. I can guarantee Chris will address it. It has worked for me numerous times. Just saying we are the first line of defense as they say.

How was I outshot ? I killed three prongs in five years I wasn't shooting against anyone, had I been shooting against someone with the identical equipment the 4500 foot shot was taken Id probably made it. We learn the same techniques Barbour uses.Metro Swat for countywide 👍 callouts is as good as it gets in metropolitan police agencies, apparently you wouldn't know you drank to much poisoned Kool aid.

County wide sniper….

I am going to make one more comment and then I am probably done. I shoot every day in CO and several times when I am in AZ. I think I am a pretty good wind caller - certainly improved since I have been able to shoot every day. My last five shots look like this:
- 500 yards: held 1/2 MOA for wind to the right; hit my 2" aiming circle
- 784 yards: held dead on (slight wind from right zeroed out spin according to my SIG K10). Hit my 3" aiming circle
- 1183 yards: held 2 MOA left for wind, hit 1 MOA left
- 784 yards: held 1.5 MOA for wind and hit my 3" aiming circle
- 1183 yards: held 3 MOA to right for wind (SIG actually said 3.25 but it "felt like" 3). Hit 1 MOA left.

The 500 and 784 yard shots were "cold bore" - no previous shots that day. The Lapua rounds were shot after the 784 yard shots but at a 45 deg angle from the 784 target (so wind angle was a bit different).

The rifle I used was a 300 RUM, McM stock Brux bbl, 700 action except for the 1183 shots, which was a Lapua on a Stiller action, McM stock, and Blake barrel. RUM shoots 220 ELDXs at 3045 and Lapua shoots 285 ELDMs at 2850; both of these have about as good of wind drift as it gets without going to .416.

Normally I am better at 1183 but the point I am making is that my wind calls were perfect at 800 and closer (and honestly, hitting that circle the last three times is not typical although I am within 5" almost always). But at 1183 I am all over the map. My last shots were on Monday, and just for my own amusement I held my Kestrel up with my iPhone stopwatch and observed over 90% of the time the wind changed within one second. Not much most of the time, but enough to kill a perfect wind call at 1183 (assuming I had been perfect).

I posted earlier this summer that the wind can be howling and I rarely miss (>5" from center) at 623yards. Once you get past 800 yards, weird sheet can happen - the bullet dispersion due to inherent accuracy increases, the wind drift per mile of wind increase exponentially, the effects of MV SD start to rear their ugly heads, and most importantly, the TOF increases to the point where a wind call is nothing more than an educated guess.

Apparently, many of you are either not familiar with Bryan Litz's WEZ analysis, don't understand the math, or just choose to say, "To heck with it, I know I have a good chance at missing or wounding, but I want to bask in the glory of a long range kill post on LRH." Who knows? But I am a believer.

I don't shoot at animals past 800 yards. It's just my personal set limit. The reason I have set myself at that limit is because I have shot A LOT at 1000 to 1800 yards at steel. It just isn't consistent enough for my hit to miss ratio to justify me shooting at an animal.

But what I'm not going to do is tell someone they can't do it. That's not my place, it's the person behind the triggers place.
