Badlands Precision Bullets thread - From BC to terminal ballistics

Well, guiding season is done for me, so it's back to getting this 300 PRC dialed in before my trip next month.

Here is some recent load data for the 300 PRC with the 195 grain BD2. I haven't hit any pressure signs and I'm getting pretty close to the speeds I'd like to see (2960-3000). Hopefully I have it shooting sub MOA at 100 by this next iteration of development so I can get a load ready to take out to the big range and see how it performs. If I don't like what I see I will just take my 338 Norma with me on the trip.

Looking good. 👍 I know this is off topic but I'm pretty curious how you feel about that Dead Air? Got a couple of those in the pipeline for myself. Hoping I'll like them.

With a COAL of 3.50" how much are you jumping them? I'm running the 195's in a 300 PRC seated at 3.602 COAL which is jumping them 0.050 in my barrel.

Do a small jump ladder. Take 2shots at each increment starting 0.010" jump out to 0.040". Use the jump that gives you the smallest 2 shot group. Looks like you have a node between 80.3 and 80.9 gr.

I've found a couple tips near the entry side of game animals. All game shot with the Badlands AL tipped bullets have expanded and performed well so far. But still none taken past 625 yds.
The tips come out at about 1" of penetration in our 10% gel tests, so the fact that you find them clese to the entrance site is consistent with early expulsion. In gel the tips usually travel 4-5" of center usually to the right of the bullet path.

I've found hundreds of tips from many bullet makes, they end up pretty consistently in the same place. It's just interesting to see the damage as it's basically a tell on it's path of exiting the bullet and the stresses of that.

Right now I'm jumping almost .200. I need to revisit it though since I've found a couple nodes that are giving me single digit ES and SD's.

I tried a seating depth test a while back and started .020 off the lands.

The 275 grain SBD2 was a through and through on the moose I killed last year at 950 yards, with my 338 Norma.
