7mm sherman max

Pretty good so far. I haven't went past 59 grains yet but no pressure and velocity is 2950. I need to do more development still, just haven't had time. Those are with 147eldms

Ran the first rounds down the Max today with 6 different powders. I loaded mostly 175 EHs and a few 195 EOLs
Top speed hit with 175 was with RL26 at 3115' and no pressure issues.
Tops with the 195 was with N570 at 2969' also no pressure issues.
With Retumbo, RL23, h1000, and ramshot, around 3050' is doable with the 175-180 class. I only loaded one setting depth for everything and the 4 I grouped all shot 1/2" so it looks promising with some load developement.
We've found that the 8.5 Rock barrels take about 2 more grains to pressure up than a Bart or Krieger though!

Were those fire forming rounds or second time around, Rich? Looks like it's gonna perform right where you figured.

What powders are gonna give me the best performance with the least temp sensitivity for hunting.

They were full loads. N570 is really good for temp and top velocity. I've actually had good luck with RL26 too with temps below 80. RL23 looks promising as well as H1000 and retumbo although they won't give the velocity of the first 2 mentioned

It won't either.
I think Hy100v might be a good choice

Above 80 degrees what would you pick?

I'm not sure you could fit enough N570 in there. I use a drop tube and 66 grains is about MAX in my 7 saum with .235 freebore and 184's.

This is the first Sherman short case that has truly peaked my curiosity to the point of perusing a build. I'm under the thought process of no replacement for displacement. Combine that with efficiency in case dimensions, and this should be a winner. Ordered a Hells Canyon ultralight summit barrel 23" 1:8 twist today. Very rigid contour but should be under 2.5#. Will make it up to a Tikka t3 donor action. Probably 3 months out on the barrel. I have a 26" proof sendero however this will be a sub 6.5# rifle that's to be nimble quick handling for deep cover & have potential long shots. I suspect with the shorter tube RL26/23 & N565 will probably work best for 165-180gr bullets. Will probably not persue 195s due to velocity loss in short barrel. Hopefully by the time my rifle is done, something other than whidden dies is available, they've left some to be desired as of late in my own observations and others. Hurry and get as much load info as you can Richard!

What twist is your proof research, I'm thinking about getting one for this same build. Thinking about going with an 8 twist.
