7mm PRC

Here is some preliminary data. As always, start low and work up to max. I have been using H1000 and Retumbo along with GM215M primers with good results.

Looks like its living up to the notes on the SAAMI design sheets. If I build one I'll use a 26in barrel like all my other long range hunting setups. That should allow squeezing 3000+ out of a 180 VLD.

Preach. This is the reality. I think the enthusiasts on this site are a little too close to the issues sometimes. In the broader scheme of things we're a very small part of the market. The top x% of the market reloads, orders custom spec.ed barrels, pushes the market forward... And then eventually Joe 6 pack wants an easy plug and play version from Bass Pro.
This is why I came here so many years ago to this forum. This place isn't for the "off the shelf ammunition and rifle crowd".

A Straight 7-300 PRC minimum OAL with Berger 195 Grain Bullet is 3.7 inches. Allowing room to chase the lands that OAL grows even more. The standard 7mm PRC begins @ 3.4" OAL with the 195 Grain Berger. These figures place the Bullet above the neck to provide the most accuracy. If Hornady had placed the shoulder 0.10 Inches taller for an OAL of 3.5 inches the performance gains would be irrelevant.
Chasing the lands, is as a exercise in futility, unlike your like to chase your tail. Once you've found the exact load/node, for the barrel, that combination does not change, from of barrel erosion. Velocity will change, but accuracy degradation will be minimal.

Good listen from one of the sources of the ideas behind the 7mm PRC. Aaron Davidson (Gunwerks President), "This will likely kill the 7mm LRM."

Really like the gunwerks podcast. Takes all the marketing bs out. I like the analysis of the development of the lrm and the samii evaluation process.

This is coming from a person who just got delivery of a 7 Sherman Max with COAL of 3.15"
In an xm action.
I think the Sherman 7 Max will be a great cartridge. Specifically for people that are into reloading. I think I would try and buy enough cases to last through the barrels life just in case. I will likely turn my 6.5 PRC into one once my barrel shoots out as I have an XM length action. If I had a long action I'd go for the 7 PRC. I have 2 7mm LRMs I load for that are my son's and son in law. Likely those will become 7 PRCs in the future.

Just FYI, the 7 max just took home some medals at the Fclass Nationals!
With the new tighter chamber, it will be a great cartridge.
28 SM is a great choice for top performance in a LA

Yeah I run a 45 degree 7-300 wsm, great case to wildcat for sure.
It'd be pretty sweet though if something like the 7 blaser mag went mainstream, it sucks that lapua keeps wasting production on PRCs..

Isn't the 7 PRC pretty close to the Blaser without the rebated rim?
7 PRC is about 99% what the Blaser is. First thing I thought when I saw the print. You can't buy a US factory rifle in the Blaser (other than an actual Blaser rifle) and Norma is the only brass I've seen available here and only occasionally. Also the Blaser was designed to fit in Mauser actions 3.25" COAL that would traditionally be used for the old European Standbys like 6.5x55, 7x57, and 8x57. PRC should allow almost any 7mm bullet to fit at around 3.34" coal (190 and 195 Bergers would be right at 3.4") with the bearing surface above the neck shoulder junction. Everything being said in this thread is what was said when the 6.5 and 300 PRC came out, as well as the Creedmoor and look how well those have done. I personally think it hits the sweet spot for capacity in 7mm and will work perfectly in any available long action. That said I have no need for one since I have a custom throated 280 ai with 3.7" mags. But for someone who wants a factory rifle with factory ammo, it will be the easy button to excellent performance in 7mm.

Yeah no the other PRCs still suck, case sizing issues are super lame. I couldn't sell my 300 prc fast enough, and my 6.5 saum is fantastic
