I have a Howa 1500 7mm RemMag that I'm looking to rebarrel.
I have an interest in the 7mm-300 PRC.
It would be my first time rebarrelling an action.
First time necking down brass and loading a wildcat cartridge.

Does anyone have experience with this cartridge?
Pros? Cons?

I have a 300WM that is by far my favorite elk rifle.
The Howa is really about the experience.

I get that, its just that the whole fun of wildcatting is to build something different from what you can buy off the shelf, and that is better (in your mind at least) is some way than what is readily available. Perfect example is a .257AI. Nearly the same performance as a 25-06, but with very long case life, and broad accuracy nodes. Another reason is to duplicate the performance of another cartridge in a better or more available case. Not trying to talk you out of it, I have a whole shelf of dies that are totally worthless from doing this very same thing. Just trying to get you to really think about what you are doing.

I read it and it wasn't very encouraging. He could not equal the velocities I get in the 28 with a 26" barrel using a 28" tube. Now, not to completely abandon the project, How about necking that sucker down to .27 cal. and twisting a 28" 1-8 tube on it?? The slightly lower capacity would be helpful here, and it would be a bad boy with heavy bullets. From the church of the 'Catters, Can I get an A-Men?

Of course not, just look at the 6MM Dasher and 6XC. But I Wouldn't be willing to split the costs on a reamer for those.
If it's not about velocity, then why do we have "magnums" at all? Without the velocity you can't push those long bullets to 1500 yards with lethality.

Look how the .300 PRC performs above the .300 WM. It can give you a rough idea of what to expect above the 7RM.

There is a fella called "Aaron Hipp" on FB that has a 28" barreled, 7-300 PRC. He said he can push 180's to 3300.
