6 PRC

Sorry, but I have not read this thread. So if this is a common question I am sorry. I currently am hunting with 6.5 prc. I moved from the 6.5 creedmore. I love everything about the prc, except that I am shooting factory 143 eldx. These shoot like my match rifle as far as accuracy, but I shot 3 whitetail bucks, and the **** bullet didn't pass through any of them. I had zero blood. I need a heavy accurate load for hunting, or I would prefer to shoot factory. I would love to hunt elk with it, but not without an exit, especially at long range. Thanks

It honestly just sounds like you want too many things from one specific bullet. You either get fast violent expansion that sometimes exit, or slow controlled expansion and smaller wound channels that exit often. I prefer how the ELDM line of bullets perform personally. Fast and violent with some exits, but not always

142Gn Nosler ABLR might suit your needs a little better. They expand fast, but, due to the core/jacket bonding will retain more weight and penetrate deeper than an ELD-X.

Some of that of course will depend upon which ELD-X you're comparing to which ABLR. Placement of the interlock-ring on the Hornady being the biggest factor that does or doesn't differentiate the 2.

Depending on what your definition of "long-range" actually is, the 140gn Nosler Partition has a BC of .490. It will give you great expansion from the front end and the rear core almost always provides an exit.

A .490 BC projectile @ 2900-3000fps is nothing to sneeze at.

Yeah a .490@2900-3000 is a darn good place to be, pretty much what I've been doing with my .270 since 1978:)

I'd shoot the 156 Berger factory ammo, there's also factory Barnes lrx, the new 145 tipped game king, 140 accubond and 130 terminal ascent. All these bullets have heartier construction than the eldx.

My wolf hunting buddy has one and it shoots very well. 3400 with 110 A Tips. I am thinking about building something similar for wolf hunting as well. Currently use the 6.5 with 135 A tips in a 18" and it's awesome but the 6mm is just a wicked little bugger.
How does the 135 a tip perform on wolves? Yardage and velocity?

What bbl length is your friend's 6PRC?

Buddy gets 3400 from 110's in a 240Wby but it's 26" to get there.

26 if I remember correctly. I'll have to ask him. I do know he's not pushed this rifle to the max yet. For some reason he hasn't hunted wolves me in quite a while. Been a couple years now that I think about it. Weird
