6.5x284 and 7PRC

With the 264WM and a Woodleigh 160gr PPSN at 3267fps it is more than enough to take any thing from Moose on down the ladder. With the 85gr sierra HP at 3827 fps smallest of game to deer and any bullet between and a lot less recoil than a 7mm. What more do I need.

He is specifically targeting the 6.5-284 vs the 7 PRC bolt face. Discussion has gone south to things that are not related but similarly if he was to choose the 264wm he would have to address the bolt face.

How quickly things get off subject. I just wanted to know if I could make the switch from my 6.5x284 to 7PRC and use the same stock, action. There's no doubt the 7PRC has more energy than the 6.5x284 at 600 yards. This is going to be a very short barrel mountain rifle. I don't care how much velocity I lose if I can get the right numbers for a max of 600 yards. In reality hopefully 400 and under.

The prc case design seems to be able to get good performance in short barrels. I am really happy with my 6.5 prc performance in a 18" and 22". I think you are on the right path

I wouldn't trade a 6.5 for a 7mm…if you compare apples to apples, 6.5's win in both energy and wind deflection.

Cheers.
On some of the 1000 yard data sheets I have seen the 6.5 PRC and the 300 PRC have about the same drop at 1000. The 7mm PRC is about 40" of less drop than either the 6.5 or the 300 PRC.

Can you share that? I have a hard time seeing 4 moa less drop. 6.5 has high bc for weight and generally is pretty flat. Be interesting to see what data is.
