Best AR15 Coyote cartridge?

When ky legalized night hunting with rifles, we were limited to a 6.5 or smaller. I built a 6.5 grendel. Still use it to this day. I have buddies I hunt with who jumped on the hornady bandwagon when the arc came out. I have nothing against it, but I've anchored more coyotes at night with the grendel than they have with the arc. If I was to build another since ky recently took caliber restrictions off, inwould go to ar10 lol. For coyotes the harder hitting the better. Anything listed in this thread will kill one at the end of the day. Some are just more forgiving than others
Yes sir some coyotes are definitely tougher than others. And in thigh tall broomweed I'd like to anchor them where the shot was broke. 22-250 anchors them. 25-06 definitely anchors them! And one thing both of those chamberings have in common is speed which translates to energy on target. I have a grendel bolt gun and it loves that 100gr eld-vt stuff.

How are those eld-vt's working on coyotes in your Grendel and what velocity are you getting out of a bolt gun?

The Valk gets no love but really does some heavy lifting for me. 80 gr ELDMs don't not hurt critters, coyote size and larger. 😆
It's just more difficult to find valkyrie parts. I think im going to go with 223 and 50-60gr bullets. The 6max with a 65gr bullet looks interesting BUT I haven't found information on if it's a straight neck down from 350 legend or not. I'm not trying to neck turn a bunch of semi-auto brass.

The 6.5 Grendel with a 100gr pill or as I shoot the 97gr absolute hammer at 3k out of an 18" barrel

You get 3000 fps out with 18" Grendel? If so, my hat is off to 'ya. I shoot a 16" and a 12" and mine don't get near that.

That sounds like 6.5 Creedmoor velocities. 🤔 I love the Grendel, it's light as it's in a mini-action and I think it's head and shoulders above most anything else in mini-action...for accuracy. For hunting it's really a short range cartridge. I wouldn't shoot past 400 yards with it, but all of our mileage varies.;)

Yes I actually get over 3100fps with my 16" bolt action how's mini. With the 97. It's all in the bullet design.

I 'spose I'll have to try that. Most all bullets I have for 6.5 Grendel can be shot in the 6.5 Creedmoor at about 600+ fps. I'm hoping to get another 200+ fps with the 6.5 PRC, same exact bullet. The 6.5 Creedmoor will even shoot the 100 grain TTSXs, which is what I use in Grendel. Maybe I should pull them and load for 6.5CM now that I think about it... 🤔

Sounds like I need to up my game...been trying to do that for about 35 years, but evidently I'm a slow learner, or look into those 97 grain Hammers... ;)

I use a 5.56. I've built a 224 Valkrie for myself and a friend. He wanted his specificity for coyote and loves it. I got in to the round before the 6 ARC existed. I like both, but in sticking to the 224V if I need to go longer range.
