6.5 haters

Wax poetic about a .270? Ok, no problem. Perhaps a civil discussion will ensure about the pros and cons of said cartridge. No memes, no mention of cool aid.

Make a few points about why the CM is a good cartridge? You better have a flame suit, it's about to get heated 😂

It is a hilariously polarizing topic.

Creedmoor haters are just hilariously emotional.

For a group that prides itself in not acting emotional, much of the shooting world hates an entire cartridge because of:

  1. Wanting to be different "just because"
  2. The personality they think creedmoor shooters have
  3. The physical appearance of creedmoor owners
Hilariously 1. Is as hipster as it gets, which is exactly what they hate about creed shooters 😂. 2/3 is making your life choices based on what others might think of you, which is the softest thing I can think of to do… which is exactly what they think about creed shooters 😂

Why in the world would I make any choice in my life based on if someone I don't know across the country is an annoying idiot and uses the same item?

People that don't want/need a 6.5 creedmoor because it doesn't fit what they want to do are different, and imo that's not a "hater" usually. This is a logical outcome based on the needs of the shooter and the properties of the cartridge, maybe they already have 260 equipment or tons of brass etc. Now, it might be based in fallacy and misunderstanding what's needed/provided, but at least it's not emotional decision making like a middle schooler.

cartridge wars in general are dumb, it's a vessel for velocity, that's it.

Except 270 win because it sucks
270 Winchester one of the genuine greats, my Sako Finnbear 24.5" barrel with 130gr Sierra SBT doing 3,200 fps in front of some RL19 works for me.

Take a 130gr in 26, 27 and 28 cal and all you have is different bc's and very little velocity difference when using the same case size (ie, 6.5-06, 270win and 280rem or short action of the same). Do the same with 150gr in 26, 27, 28 and 30 cal....................short mag in all with the boat-tail in the shoulder and the rest out the neck. COAL will be different, velocity not much change, but big change in bc. Pick a caliber and cartridge and go with it as it's no big deal and all you fight is drift.

Bulltinkle, I think that I summed it up pretty well in my first paragraph!

And Yes, I do dislike the cartridge for reasons that have nothing to do with the cartridge actually is……only the over sensationalism, over hype by many folks.

The factory ammunition defense is mostly baseless as per my previous statement…..the average Joe that bought into the hype-factor cannot/will not benefit from it's long range usefulness. So now we're down to precision hand loaders/shooters, that can make several other 6.5 equal to or superior to the 6.5 CM!

Sorry to continue this…..but I think I have valid points, without hatred introduced! memtb
You can say this about almost any cartridge , I don't own a 6.5 CM so I don't have a dog in this fight. But I fail to see what's supposedly 'wrong' with it? I mean you can see why some people won't buy a BMW because most owners are pretentious idiots, but a rifle calibre who cares.

This is the part that will always be a disconnect to this forum. It is full of hot riders and wildcatters that think in terms of incremental gains and improvements and custom everything.

It's the same as the 7prc. Of course no one here cares when they can take a 28 nosler and un-handicap it with a long bullet. In a Wyatt's box. Hornady is giving simple solutions to normal people that want factory ammo that performs better and incorporates long high bc bullets. It's fantastic for the shooting industry, but it's met with disdain from the people who discovered it and did it the "hard way"

There is nothing wrong with any of the cartridges everyone here will prefer or suggest, but in the end I think it's all bench racing for trying to find what's "better" when in reality it's always just a given bullet at a given impact velocity, and with every 100fps on the same bullet the gains in reality are quite small.

None of the answers are wrong, but for me I chose simplicity, factory support and commonality for my bench. 223, 6.5 creed, 3006, 300win. The choice between 308 and 6.5creed was simple, wind and easespotting shots. As said before if Remington could do their job I'd be in a 260 but they couldn't.

KISS
This is a very astute observation that I seem to sometimes forget (wildcatters and custom builders heavily represented here). I love the endless possibilities and improvements available from wildcatting and what it does to revolutionize and improve shooting- nearly all of the best commercial offerings were once wildcats, and I even like to see legendary ones like .280AI get a resurgence… although now that SAAMI has accepted it and a few manufacturers are chambering it I'm sure it'll become disdained by LRH shortly.
Further to your point- there's

Primarily people with teenage levels of maturity (or some underlying insecurity) that struggle to evaluate tools based on their merits.
Imagine being unwilling or unable to consider a certain cooler (or whatever else) simply because some people that you personally dislike made claims about them that you find exaggerated. "I refuse to own a yeti because hipsters with man buns say they keep ice cold for two weeks, but I know they really only keep ice cold for a week and a half! Yetis don't do anything an igloo won't- all you've got to go is pay a custom cooler maker to double them together, then inject them with a special mold, then refinish them!"

Okay let's be honest! The 6.5 Creedmoor is the most revolutionary cartridge developed in our lifetime. It's very efficient and inherently accurate. The design makes small improvements in many areas which add up. It's not a 1k yard elk cartridge but supremely effective within its effective range… bullet choice and impact velocity. The 6.5 CM has made it possible for many shooters to make 1k+ yard shots (steel/paper) relatively easy without major recoil and the ability to spot hits. This cartridge is basically an improved .308 Win. One of the problems is shooters get confidant in making those long shots comfortably on paper then try and shoot animals at distances beyond its effective range. Those shooters aren't taking into account the lack of energy (wallop) to take down selected game at extended ranges. Another benefit is there are more factory selections of ammo than any other! Furthermore, this cartridge has opened the eyes of many in developing heavy for caliber cartridges with faster twist barrels. Holy smokes, take a look at some of the superb cartridges such as the 6.5 PRC, 300 PRC, and the new king of long range hunting… the 7mm PRC. Don't be a hater, everyone should own at least one rifle chambered in the almighty 6.5 Creedmoor!

We couldn't get velocity's out of IMR brand that said we run it behind some 140 Partition in 270 it's accurate
I haven't changed powder since started loading it in '86. With newer powders and loading now for a BLR (22") I'll probably try lots of various brands and numbers. I just used imr for everything .... well actually only 2 rifles 264wm and 270win.
