There is a Limbsaver pad and a Limbsaver Air Tec, two different worlds in taming felt recoil. I use the Limbsaver Air Tec.
Just last week I received one to put on an XLR Element 4.0 magnesium with the C6 butt stock. Perfect fit. Took 5 minutes to swap out the stock Limbsaver (which is about 1/4" thick and essentially worthless for shootimg more than 6 to 9 rounds in a session with a 7PRC barreled action on the chassis). I haven't put an action back on the chassis to shoot it but a visual and physical inspection of the Backfire pad leads me to believe that it will work as advertised. So how would you rate the screwdriver-ready aspect of the backstop? If that's really true and it works okay, sounds way easier than grinding.
It sounds like you are under the impression that ALL Limbsaver pads are 1/4" thick. Is that what you believe?Just last week I received one to put on an XLR Element 4.0 magnesium with the C6 butt stock. Perfect fit. Where oh where do I start with this post....... Perhaps you will note there are 2 posts above, amazingly one right after the other regarding my need and comparison. In the first I noted I was unhappy with the performance of the Limbsaver pad on the XLR chassis. It is a thin little pad and likely for it size does an admirable job. But doesn't do a good enough job on a heavy caliber, as I noted. In the second post I reported the results of replacing the Limbsaver pad with the Backfire pad, noting the great job it did, "The Backfire Pad feels just as good as when I am shooting the 300PRC on a Manners PH stock with a Limbsaver Pad."It sounds like you are under the impression that ALL Limbsaver pads are 1/4" thick. Is that what you believe?
I'm glad you are happy with your new recoil pad, but I suspect you'd be equally happy w/the 1" thick Limbsaver pad, too.
We don't have to tear down another product in an effort to elevate the one we might prefer. Both can be good & effective. It starts with comparing fairly. A 1/4" pad vs. a 1" pad isn't a fair competition.
