Backfire Recoil Pad

So how would you rate the screwdriver-ready aspect of the backstop? If that's really true and it works okay, sounds way easier than grinding.
Just last week I received one to put on an XLR Element 4.0 magnesium with the C6 butt stock. Perfect fit. Took 5 minutes to swap out the stock Limbsaver (which is about 1/4" thick and essentially worthless for shootimg more than 6 to 9 rounds in a session with a 7PRC barreled action on the chassis). I haven't put an action back on the chassis to shoot it but a visual and physical inspection of the Backfire pad leads me to believe that it will work as advertised.

Finally got to the range with the Backfire Recoil pad. Put a 300PRC onto the XLR chassis. Shooting a spicey load with 215 Berger hybrids at 2830 out of a 22" barrel. Ultra 9" suppressor so minimal recoil reduction. The Backfire Recoil pad is great! I would highly recommend it. I will be ordering one for my MPA chassis. The Backfire pad feels just as good as when I am shooting the 300PRC on a Manners PH stock with a Limbsaver pad.

It sounds like you are under the impression that ALL Limbsaver pads are 1/4" thick. Is that what you believe?

I'm glad you are happy with your new recoil pad, but I suspect you'd be equally happy w/the 1" thick Limbsaver pad, too.

We don't have to tear down another product in an effort to elevate the one we might prefer. Both can be good & effective. It starts with comparing fairly. A 1/4" pad vs. a 1" pad isn't a fair competition.

Where oh where do I start with this post....... Perhaps you will note there are 2 posts above, amazingly one right after the other regarding my need and comparison. In the first I noted I was unhappy with the performance of the Limbsaver pad on the XLR chassis. It is a thin little pad and likely for it size does an admirable job. But doesn't do a good enough job on a heavy caliber, as I noted. In the second post I reported the results of replacing the Limbsaver pad with the Backfire pad, noting the great job it did, "The Backfire Pad feels just as good as when I am shooting the 300PRC on a Manners PH stock with a Limbsaver Pad."

Are you familiar with Manners? With the Manners PH? Manners makes high end carbon stocks. Do you suppose they put 1/4" pads on their stocks? Did I say that it was a 1/4" pad? Did I say the Limbsaver did a bad job in the Manners stock? Did I say the "BACKFIRE PAD FELT JUST AS GOOD AS THE LIMBSAVER PAD?" I am not quite positive but I am pretty sure that statement would indicate equivalent performance between the Backfire pad and the Limbsaver pad.

Your words, exactly as stated in your post:
"Took 5 minutes to swap out the stock Limbsaver (which is about 1/4" thick and essentially worthless for shootimg more than 6 to 9 rounds in a session with a 7PRC barreled action on the chassis)."

Glad you like your Backfire pad. Sorry your high dollar stock came w/an essentially useless 1/4" pad.

Limbsaver makes a great recoil pad. It sounds like Backfire is comparable in effectiveness, which is a win for consumers.

This is what comes stock on the C6 XLR buttstock. There is a hard plastic mount plate, the recoil reduction part is about 1/4" more or less. For a 223, 6GT, 22 Creedmore, 22ARC it would be fine. For a 7PRC or a 300PRC unbreaked (suppressor) its not so good.

well, that seems like it might be disappointing.

I put one on a new 6.5 PRC and it is great! I have nothing but praise for the recoil pad by Backstop. I don't own a Limbsaver so I couldn't comment as to which feels better, but like him or not he has a good product.

Some of the more negative comments regarding Jim Harmer seem strident and definitive enough in nature to perhaps lead one to conclude that they are personal in nature, arising from individual interactions with him(?).
