6.5-284 or 26 Nosler?

I love the 65284 and the 6.5-06. I have had half a dozen of both. I have had a couple .264 Win Mag and have 3 .260Rem and a 6.5 Creed. ( have lots of kids and nephews and nieces I hate to see shooting crap) but brass not withstanding I really love the 6.5PRC as a hunting round. I am not a 1000 yard guy. My limit is set at 600 and I actually very seldom shoot hoofed critters past 450. That said the PRC will out-perform the 284 and 06 case and is easier to load for and shoot than the 264WM, 26Nos, 6.5-300Bee as well as easier on Barrels. It actually works very well as a short action cartridge and if you run 130s for deer and antelope it is truly spectacular from the short action. I have hunted with it and shot it a lot. I am shooting a CA Mesa. As soon as I am done playing with the Wby RPM I am going to build a lighter weight 6.5PRC and it will be the ultimate mountain gun. From a hunting perspective I am not sure it can be improved upon. Oh, and ADG has brass, the Hornady brass is serviceable, and it won't be too far down the road and Lapua will be on-board I would bet. Long story longer, if I had to go 284 or Nosler It would be the 284 for sure.
I was between the 6.5-284 & the 6.5 prc. I have a 6.5 creed, 6.5x55 swede & two 264 win mags already. I ended up going with the CA ridgeline 6.5 prc.

Man oh man,,, I wish I could find some RL powders up here in our neck of the woods...

My 6.5 A-Square would rock according to the reloading manuals...

Ive tested H4350,,, H4831,,, H1000,,, the 1000 works fairly good over the other 2 powders behind the 140/ 147 grain'ers...

H4350 @ 49 gr for 2680 ft-per seconds
H4831 @ 51 gr for 2780
H1000 @ 53.3gr for 2980 at the max load and top node...

I found another sweet spot at 2680 ft-per seconds with 50.2gr of H1000 behind the 140 gr bullets...

Fairly accurate with super low recoil and a lot less flash burn on the throat...

Save what little I can before finishing the pipe off by the end of the year... ha...

The old pipe will be pretty worn out by then in the first 4" of the rifling... hopefully the 2000 ish rounds if it will make it that far on the Stainless steel barrel... $480 Cnd funds... $330 Usd...

I just got an 8 pound jug of H 1000 from powder valley check it out I don't know where somewhere in America would be but if you're near Tennessee my little gun store has reloader 23 5 1 pounders as of the other dayAnd many other powders they cannot sell firearms due to nics being down but get powder while you can

I have two friends with Creedmoor's they will not get to 3000 in my experience we all handload I've tried several powders if you want velocities up near there you must drop to a 130 grain bullet or have a 30 inch barrel
I was th guy on page 1 talking about speeds over 3200 with a 140, I was referencing my 26n. I just found that bergers didnt work well for me over that speed. In a few different calibers. My 6.5-284 likes it around 2900 from a 24" barrel.
A CM is more like 2800ish top end from a 26" barrel. RL26 might get you to 2900. My 260ai will go just over 2900 (26") but thats pushing it pretty hard.

There are several options between the two case capacities listed: 6.5 prc(70gr), 6.5 saum(73gr), 264 wm(82gr), 6.5 RPM(85gr) I've owned the prc and saum, personally I like the saum and it'll outpace the 6.5-284 varint by 100fps its pretty easy to get 140s to 3150-3200 w/ RL26. It'll have 3x the barrel life of a 26N.

Chad Dixon at LRI built mine.
It's on a trued remington.
I have 4 rifles on trued remington's all built by different gunsmiths.
They're all really nice, but I have to say that this LRI is the nicest one. The fit and finish on this rifle is 100% perfect, and the action feels just as nice as my Stiller predator.
It's doesn't feel like my Defiance, but It's every bit or more accurate as any of my custom action custom rifles.
It's a bit funny to me that my two most accurate rifles, (260, and 6.5x284) are both on trued remingtons. They are the only two that I can consistently shoot in the 3's.
The others will do it sometimes, but are more consistently in the 4's and 5's.
If value is not a concern, I wouldn't hesitate to have another custom on a trued remington.
I traded a scope for it on this site, so I'm in it about 1500 bucks.
If your not in a hurry, you'll probably find one on this site. We all know that building a custom rifle is a great way to lose money. I've bought several on this site for about 1/2 of what it cost to have them built, and have had a few built that I know I couldn't sell for much more than 1/2 of what I have into them.
Building custom rifle is a bit like driving a new truck off the lot, it's fun and exciting, but deep down, you know you just lost your ***!!
Chad Dixon is a great gun builder.

Where is everybody getting load data for the 140 up to 3200fps in a 6.5-284?
I am guessing this must be custom loads worked up until pressure signs are shown?
I am only asking because Berger load data only goes to a little over 3000fps and they recommend a 1-8 twist or faster.

Berger load data is VERY conservative from what I've seen. I use Quickload to work up
mine and am currently settled on a 140 Berger VLD @ 3072fps from a 26" Hart barrel, 1:8 twist with an SD of 4 and ES of less than 20.
