6.5-284 or 26 Nosler?

I went with the 6.5-284 and love it. I hand load and have had great results with this round. I harvested a Whitetail in Wyoming this year at 1012yds and he dropped in his tracks!
I was trying to load the video of the shot but it won't load on here. Anyway, I'm very happy with the 6.5-284.

Hey guys I'm looking for some input on my next rifle. I currently have a 6.5 Creedmoor as my go to deer rifle. I love the 6.5 round and want to stay with it, but I'd like to be able to carry more energy out past 500 yards. I know the 6.5-284 and 26 Nosler are both capable. Which would be better and why? Thanks in advance for your input.
6.5 SAUM/GAP in a short action would do the job and would be lighter do to the short vs long action. I also love my 28 Nosler though.

What bullet were you using on the Whitetail?

If it's for a hunting rifle there is nothing wrong with a 26 nosler, shooting 20 rounds a year it would take 35 years to get to 700 rounds, the biggest problem with the 26 imo is how much nosler wants for a box of ammo for it, but if your wanting to take one to the range or what ever else the 6.5 284 would be better, the 264 is a good option too or the 28 nosler I'm having one built now. And I throw another one out there is a 6.5 300 weatherby(I'm 90% sure it's weatherby), it would be considered a barrel burner too but if it's just a hunting rifle it would be perfect, my friend has one on a savage action and I'd love to get my hands on it, it's probably the flattest shooting rifle I've shot, but your not going to go hit rocks with it every day either. I've noticed a lot of people get hung up on 700-900 round barrel life I see their point but you got to ask yourself how long is it going to take You not some one else to reach the end of the barrel life, just my two cents
My humble vote is for 26 Nosler. Had two 6.5 284 barrels, wasn't impressed and frustrating to load for.
On my second 26 Nosler barrel and in my personal experience has been really pretty easy to find a load for.
I am somewhat of a velocity monger although I'm loading my current barrel at an idle with H50bmg because it shoots so good at 3290 fps with 140 Hybrids

I would go nosler, Ive got a 28 and my wife shoots a 26 nosler. Im running the 140 berger hybrid over 74.5 grains of H-1000 at 3345 fps in the .3s consistently. Barrel burner yes but it hits mule deer hard out to 650, her longest kill.

As Ron Spomer says the 6.5-284 Norma is the best all round hunting cartridge !

I have a cpl 6.5-284 rifles and a third being built on a all stainless Mark V 6 lug action, it's a pleasant cartridge to shoot, easy to load for, lots of aftermarket brass, I always said the 280AI was my fav cartridge but it's hard not to love the 6.5-284.

I'm in your camp, when I take my 280 AI to the range it's my favorite then when the 6.5X285 goes out I say it's my favorite. I just put a nice $3K scope on my 6.5x824 so I wonder what that telling me? Maybe I don't know what my favorite is, but I sure like trying to figure it out ;)

Sounds like the general consensus of the group discussion is leaning toward the 6.5-284 being the better choice. Now with that said should I have one built, and if so recommendations on builder? Or should I purchase a factory custom such as Mcwhorter, Fierce or Christensen arms? I do not have an unlimited budget, $3000 is a comfortable ceiling if possible.
Anyone selling a gently used 6.5-284?

Are you still looking for 6.5-284? I have one that hasn't been shot 10 times. Christensen Arms classic

Where is everybody getting load data for the 140 up to 3200fps in a 6.5-284?
I am guessing this must be custom loads worked up until pressure signs are shown?
I am only asking because Berger load data only goes to a little over 3000fps and they recommend a 1-8 twist or faster.
I got up to 3100 with reload or 26 but accuracy was not there I switch from a 4831 shortcut and tried reloader 23 currently running 2980 can

get over 3000 but with some pressure

Well it the 6.5x284 should be able to get to 3100. According to all the Creedmoor shooters on this forum they can eclipse 3000 with a 140 btw I don't believe them. So if they can supposedly hit over 3000 a 284 case should be good for at least another 100fps.
I have two friends with Creedmoor's they will not get to 3000 in my experience we all handload I've tried several powders if you want velocities up near there you must drop to a 130 grain bullet or have a 30 inch barrel
