6.5 156 EOL

6.5-06, 18" barrel, 8 twist, 8.25 pounds, throat eroded, oal 3.44 and jumping about .06.
54 grains RL26 2700, .5" groups so far.
55 grains RL26 2760, no pressure signs.

Shooting this rig suppressed, felt recoil is about like a 223. Accuracy is there so far at a lower node and not sure how high I want to run it. At 2700 fps and at my altitude, its looking pretty good on paper. Will mess some more with that 54 grain load at distance.

I can run my 6.5/06 at 2930 with the 140/47 gr booltiz easy,,, of course there is a sweet spot at the 2740 ft-per seconds on my rifle...

The only way you'll know if you are able to push the limits with more pressure is use 1 case and load it up 5 times to see if it stretches past to bump back,,, of course the primer pocket will definitely let you know if your in the safe zone...

Its easy for me to tell how much case stretch I'm getting since I use a hand press along with a neck tension guage...

I don't mind seeing 0.0010 to 0.0015 """shoulder""" bulge,,, 0.0020 to 0.0025 thou tells me that my brass is getting a work out...

Mic your gauging tools to make sure that they are reading correctly,,, its a go if they are up to task...

Don, Is your's an 18" barrel or perhaps 24" or so? I figure I lose about 150 fps chopped and hunting above 8500 feet in elevation, 2700 fps is all I need to get quite far. When it was 24" I was doing upper 2900s with 140 vld and RL26 easily.

I loaded some up today in my 6.5 SS. No rl26 so I used rl 33. Started at 62 grains, (2925), quit at 64 grains (3000). It was pretty warm out today as well. 89 degrees. I did get get some pressure signs at 64 grains.
.3-.75" groups. Averaged 15 FPS ES.
I had 3.290 CBTO Including comparator. The comparator is 1.05".
2.990 OAL.

The bearing surface is the longest of all the Berger bullets, minus the 300gr 338 bullets, the bearing surface is .546 so with the boat tail seated at neck shoulder junction you'll have quite a lot of bearing surface out the neck, requiring a long freebore. I'm just speaking hypothetically if you were wanting to throat it for that particular bullet. The PRC has a lengthy freebore for a 6.5 chamber I'd imagine the only Sammi longer is the 6.5x300 wby.

Im a little surprised that you hit pressure at 3000'. How did the bullet sit in the neck? I would think not to badly.
what barrel length?

Got mine today, got 100 of them tumbling in HBN as we speak, and in the morning I will load up some test rounds. I know with the 140 and 147, Reloder 26 was a lightly compressed load in my .260 AI, wondering if I'm gonna max out on pressure or capacity first. This should be fun!!

it ought to be right there on capacity

26" barrel. Also it was some older Norma first run brass. I was hoping I would get to 3 k a bit easier as well. My 147 load with rl26 which I shot at same session was going 3100, but with adg brass
