450 Bushmaster Vs 45 Raptor

Revival of old post I see--- actually I just bought a 450bm upper from bca ( bought with plenty of knowledge of the issues with bca) for $235 shipped.
I was pleasantly surprised to find this past weekend it functioned flawlessly and prints 1" groups with factory ammo and a 4x scope at 100 yards.

I noticed there is Not much left of the bolt/lugs after its relieved for the bushy case-- anyone have issues with broken bolt lugs in ar15 with this cartridge?

Hi
I have never had an issue. I started with the AR platform then went to the Encore, always liked the single shots, my son now has the 450 upper and he has not had any issues either. Guess I never noticed, since it is a rebated rim case to fit the AR 15 bolt, not sure why they would need to take off any material.

It's a .473" bolt face-- like the 308 case family, BUT it only runs 38000psi, not 62000 like the 308 family.

Hello
I have a custom made Encore by MGM, absolutely a fantastic shooter. They recommend the 450 over the 460 because it is more accurate out of the Encore platform. Had a Smith 460, it was the most accurate handgun I have ever shot. Smith achieved that by using barrels from Lother/Walther with a gain twist. The barrel starts out with no twist to 1/100. I had an older 460 pistol barrel in the Encore when it first came out. TC had all kinds of issues with it. I called and talked to their custom shop manager, Roland. He advise me they had accuracy issues because of the bullet hitting the rifling was getting chewed up. I sent my barrel back and they replaced it for me with a diff caliber. I have used the Bushy here in Southern Mi since they have allowed it. Have not lost a deer and most go right down. I have taken 7 so far and have never looked back. My son is using the Bushy in his AR.
My 45 Raptor is deadly accurate. It's basically the 460 S&W. It's on a bolt action platform. Not saying it's a better option than the 450 BM but since I reload and I would have reloaded the 450BM had I decided on it, I chose the 45 Raptor. It outperforms the 450 for sure but it's not necessary for it to be in my case. I just would rather have the reserve if needed.

The raptor is a 60,000 psi cartridge, right?

I understand it's an AR platform based round. Obviously why it's pressured lower. Many sure are chambered for bolt guns tho. Definitely can be pushed harder in that platform .

Yea, the weak point of the ar15 would be bolt thrust issues with the .473 bolt face-- gotta keep pressures lower in the ar15 but the lr308/ar10 chassis could run the higher pressures

Yes I have. Got very good accuracy, did not chronograph it yet. I am also loading the 200gr FTX that the 460 shoots. Have not shot any yet. Will post when I do.
Can't pm you ( you are too new with not enough posts)

Can you give me some details on your 225ftx load? What brass/primer/powder charge/oal etc? Any info would be greatly appreciated

It's interesting to me that you have a 450 Bushmaster and you still choose to hunt with your NEF/H&R single shot 20 gauge. Can I ask your reasoning?

I'm asking because I've also been considering a TC Encore in 460 S&W (which is ballistically identical to the 45 Raptor). The main reason I've not been as interested in the TC option is because it's as heavy as the DPMS G2 rifles, so why not have a repeater?
I bought 3 NEF classic carbines, one still in box unfired, two stayed 45colt, third I chambered to 460S&W. The 460S&W is a great round in the light single shot, and can get magnum velocity with a 160gr. solid copper HP.....

If your shooting 160 gr. solid copper you need to try Cutting Edge Bullets 160 gr. Flat Base Raptor I've been shooting them since 2006. It's the best bullet made for the 450 Bushmaster pushing 60'000 psi. or in a 45 Raptor. My longest shot has been 190 yards closest 35 yards most are DRT.

You were much luckier than a group of people I witnessed jumping on a deal for the SOCOM uppers. Out of a dozen or so I think only one functioned properly out of the box, a few sent them to Tromix to be worked over and the others copied what Tromix did.
