30 NOSLER OR 300 PRC

Thats awesome with the 245's!
I'm having a 24" Rock Creek barrel chambered here in the next few weeks
I went with the 30 Nosler, it'll be throated for 245s
If I can get 2900 with H1000 I'll be pumped.
Could you please share some details on your barrel and powder used.

I ditched the 300 wm years ago, and there's no freaking way guys are matching prc or 30 nos velocities with it at equal pressures.
26 inch 1.85 bartlien sendero contour using 82.7 of n570.

You won't get 2900 with H1000 and 245's. N570 you could. With H1000, 230's and a 26" barrel is about 2930-50

I have shot them. There is a big recoil difference.
I noticed a significant difference in recoil going from a 230 to a 245 also. Enough to say that it warranted a heavier rifle than what I currently have. I have a Christensen Slayer brake. It's very effective at reducing recoil

Good to know guys
Thanks
I'll probably seat my 245 dummy rounds a little deeper for throating in case I can't handle the recoil.
I've shot 230's from a lightweight 300NM and recoil wasn't even an issue for my wife, crazy that 15 grains can make such a difference

Sometimes what is perceived as recoil is actually bad barrel harmonics with a load that isn't tuned. Generally when you get them in a node, vibration at the shooter is minimized. This is much more pronounced in light, sporter barrels. Not saying that's what you've experienced, just a thought

Mine shot small. But about 80-100 FPS slower than 230's. And kicked about the same as 300 Berger. I have switch barrels for 300 and 338 Norma improved so I know the recoil feeling. Rifle was about 11.5 pounds.

One of the reasons that I switched to the 181 Hammer was to reduce recoil in my un-braked 30Nosler. It's not actually the recoil itself that bothers me, it's how close the ocular lens gets to my eyebrow that prompted me to try lighter bullets.
When I started shooting 200 gr Accubonds in an unbraked, 8.25 pound 300 RUM, I got hit with the scope several times. Changing to 181 gr Hammers fixed that problem for me, too.
