270 SS Build

Did you mean rl 23?
Rl 33 will be way to slow. I crammed 67.3 grains of rl33 with drop tube under a 150 lrab and got a meager 2787 fps. Same amount under 170 Berger for 2838 fps.
I know it's gonna be slow, but I'm only fireforming this time around. I've got almost 3 lbs of 33 that I have no use for and figured it'd work great for forming brass.

that is a pretty looking rig. still cant beat a classic looking rifle with modern day cartridge and performance.
nice job.
Thanks very much! I love how it turned out. I'm really hoping the Limbsaver soaks up enough of the recoil with full house hunting loads that I'm able to avoid adding a muzzle brake. I'd hate to ruin the clean and classic lines I spent so much time working to achieve with a muzzle brake, but will if required for comfort.

the Limbsaver pads work good I have used them in the past, a heck of a lot better than some of the factory stuff. it shouldn't kick much more than a hot 30-06 load. Riches 270 ss is the only one that ever interested me. you will be fine it is a hunting gun.
NO MUZZLE BRAKE

NO MUZZLE BRAKE
I've had heavier recoiling hunting rifles with the muzzle brake, just to spot shots and help stay on target in the past. I'm not a big fan either, because in the moment I've forgotten to get my plugs in and been def the next few days! My old 7SS that weighed about 9ish lbs scoped and loaded wasn't braked and not too bad shooting 180s at 3050'. I'm hoping for 3400+ with the 126gr Hammers when it's all said and done.

This rifle is awesome! The balance is perfect and makes it feel and handle like a much lighter rifle! Can't wait to get a load worked up and see how she groups.

If you end up wanting a brake and want to keep the clean lines, you could do it with a radial brake. Won't be as effective as a ported brake, but will still reduce recoil, and could follow the barrel contour. Just an idea.

I do have a Vais minibrake. The limbsaver does a decent job taking recoil, but I'm guessing with full house loads it's gonna get pretty vicious.
