Customs form for Canada Moose Hunt

I have booked a moose hunt for next fall in Alberta. My wife and I will be driving there from Utah. I know I need to register my rifle with customs prior to leaving the country. My question is, can I do this in Salt Lake City (or Vegas) at the customs office there? I know you're not supposed to take a firearm into any federal building, or onto any federal property, so I'm not sure how you're supposed to get this done? I want to avoid spending any extra time at the border crossing in Montana since we are looking at 24 hours drive time to the location where we're supposed to meet the outfitter.

The last time I did it I went in the Customs office, filled out the form, and they came out to the vehicle and looked at the firearm.
Get a big one!

I've not done the Customs thing with a rifle for the hunts I've done in Canada.
However, you do need to fill out a Canadian form, and pay at the border:

FYI, if you're going to share a rifle with a hunting partner, possibly as a spare, put the rifle on your form and theirs.

For my upcoming Africa trip I'll register my firearms. Here we can do it at the airport.
