240gr. Mk seating in 300WSM?

Tactical Hits,
What stock are you using? When I got my new savage, the first thing I did was make sure the barrel was full floating.Sure enough,it had a spot where it was touching,so I grinded it off with a dremel tool.I checked it with a dollar bill BTW.Since then,I have put a stockade prarie dog/tactical stock on,and bedded it,that made quite a big difference in accuracy.I still have my factory 24'' barrel on,and it is very accurate. This may sound dumb, but when I load develope,I use a fan that constantly blows on my barrel,it makes a huge difference in keeping your barrel cool when you are sitting there firing off several shots. It makes load developing go 3 times as fast, because you are not spending most of your time waiting for the barrel to cool.If you have access to a power outlet close to your shooting bench, give it a try!

What model is your savage I have one of those choate ultimate sniper stocks I have been trying to give away.

4.233 .....wonder of you could just drill a hole. The aluminum bedding block extends past the hole a good bit.

That could be what my bolt space is? I just measured it quickly with a measuring tape! I would love to have it,:D I can pay for shipping. Where are you located? Let me know. Thanks Nathan,

It looks like I should be ordering my HART barrel at the end of May. I would like to here more than 1 opinion on what rate of twist? Would it be worth the extra money to just send my rifle to HART and have them figure out where the rifling lands should be and what rate of twist is best for long range, shooting 210gr. berger VLD's? It will probably cost quite a bit more, but will it make a big difference? If not, what is the best way for me to tell HART where the Rifling lands should start? Since I don't care about the rounds fitting in the magazine, should I just load the bullets as far out as possible and send them the COAL? I'm sorry about all of the questions, but this is my first custom built gun and I don't have allot of money to do things twice!

Thanks again, Nathan

TacticalHits, I am thinking a 1-11.5 or 1-12 twist will be perfect. I would ask Kirby Allen or Goodgrouper. They are both very knowledgable about this stuff and I would ask their opinion on twist. The 208grn A-Max, 210 VLD and MK, should work really well with the 1-11.5 or 1-12 twist. You could call Hart and ask them too, however, I am thinking Kirby Allen is the guy you want to answer this questions. What ever he says, I would listen and follow his recommendations.

Personaly I would go with a 10 twist... My 300 Win is a 10 twist and I am very happy with it..

TacticalHits, JWP475 is right about the 1-10 twist. You can't go with that twist with the .30cal. I just remeber someone telling me if you're going to use bullets from 190 to 210, the 1-11.5 or 1-12 twist would work best. However, the 1-10 would allow you to shoot the 220 and 240grn bullets, but I think these bullets wont work as well out of the 300WSM. I would seriously post something to Kirby and take his advise.

IMO With the WSM the best all around twist is the 1-11.

The 1-12 is sometimes on the ragged edge with the 210 grain bullets. 190s and below no problem. so it depends on what weight bullets you plan on shooting most of the time.

I have WSMs with 1-10, 1-11 and 1-12. For hunting long range, the 1-11 is the best.

The WSM shines with bullets 210 and below also.

Hart is an excellant choice also.

I plan on strictly shooting 210gr. VLD's or 208gr. A-MAX if the VLD's don't work. Do you think there is a performance difference between the two?

Thanks Nathan,
