220 Swift Using Faster Twist Barrel vs 22CM

It all comes down to the best components. Right now the 22 creed wins hands down. No one making brass for the 220 swift or the 22-250
Huh? I just checked a couple of my routine online suppliers, and they have Nosler, Hornady and Prvi 22-250 in stock and Hornady and Norma in 220 Swift.

As an FYI, one can use 22CM brass to fireform in a 22-250AI chamber.

I keep reading discussions about how modern 22 cartridges like the 22 Creedmoor, outperform the older cartridges like the 22-250 & 220 Swift. The comparisons are never "apples to apples" though. They all compare the older cartridges shooting, for example, 50gr bullets through a 1:12 twist to the modern cartridges shooting 75gr-90gr bullets through a 1:8 twist.

So what happens if you build a 220 Swift with a 1:8 twist and shoot 75-90gr bullets? How would that compare with the 22 CM?

I have built two 1-8 twist .220 Swift's, one with a Brux barrel and the other with a Mike Rock barrel. I used short length push feed M70 actions to gain a bit more magazine length among other things. Both are very, very accurate with bullets from 50-80 grains. I have not tried any bullets over 80 grains. When I head west to hunt deer and antelope, the Swift is my first choice...... love them. And they work well with the lighter bullets on prairie dogs and coyotes. The 53 grain Hornady V-Max is an outstanding bullet for them.

There's no magic in the head stamp on the brass...
Case capacities as measured by Layne Simpson for a recent article on the fast twist 220 Swift.
22 Creedmoor - 49.3
22-250 - 44.3
22-250 imp - 50.2
220 Swift - 49.1
Case capacities in grains of water of the case filled with water.
Idk where you got this, but my lapua 6cm necked down and turned for 22cm holds 51.4gr water weight. Hornady brass is about a grain more.

All those brass brands don't hold a candle to lapua ADG or Peterson.

I tried fireforming 22 cm to my 22-250ai. What's the point of doing it when I can just use a 22 creed and get the same performance?

And Alpha, they make great brass as well!

Lapua still makes and offers 22-250 brass. My response was to your statement that "no one making brass for 220 Swift or the 22-250" The point was and is YES they are. You stated nothing about higher end brands.

As for fireforming 22CM in a 22-250AI case, if one wishes to use SRP, it is simple to do, or if one wants to use higher end brass and cannot locate it in 22-250, then the 22CM is available. I have also used 22CM SRP in a standard 22-250 by simply resizing through the standard die. If one already owns a 22-250 and/or 22-250AI, then there are options. I do find my 22-250AI holds a slight velocity edge over the 22CM.

Personally and over the years, I have shot just as small of groups and as many with various brands of "lesser" brass, as I have with higher end. And with the money saved, I could buy larger quantities. This from a past BR shooter. Each to their own.

If you actually read what I wrote then you would know where I got it.
Maybe his cases were different than yours? You know, like different brands, different lot number, etc.

I know what you're saying.
I see the same tired ***ed stuff posted about "there's no brass available".
There's been plenty Swift and 22-250 brass available in the last couple years. You just have to BUY IT when available. ;)
