220 Swift Using Faster Twist Barrel vs 22CM

It all comes down to the best components. Right now the 22 creed wins hands down. No one making brass for the 220 swift or the 22-250

Huh? I just checked a couple of my routine online suppliers, and they have Nosler, Hornady and Prvi 22-250 in stock and Hornady and Norma in 220 Swift.

As an FYI, one can use 22CM brass to fireform in a 22-250AI chamber.

I built a new 22 Creed but it won't hold a candle to my (former) 22-243AI. Using 243 Lapua cases necked down, I got 3,670fps with a 75 A-Max moly bullet. The accuracy was unbelievable.

I keep reading discussions about how modern 22 cartridges like the 22 Creedmoor, outperform the older cartridges like the 22-250 & 220 Swift. The comparisons are never "apples to apples" though. They all compare the older cartridges shooting, for example, 50gr bullets through a 1:12 twist to the modern cartridges shooting 75gr-90gr bullets through a 1:8 twist.

So what happens if you build a 220 Swift with a 1:8 twist and shoot 75-90gr bullets? How would that compare with the 22 CM?

I have built two 1-8 twist .220 Swift's, one with a Brux barrel and the other with a Mike Rock barrel. I used short length push feed M70 actions to gain a bit more magazine length among other things. Both are very, very accurate with bullets from 50-80 grains. I have not tried any bullets over 80 grains. When I head west to hunt deer and antelope, the Swift is my first choice...... love them. And they work well with the lighter bullets on prairie dogs and coyotes. The 53 grain Hornady V-Max is an outstanding bullet for them.

Thanks for all of the great info. Since I have a 22CM reamer and good brass is available, I'll go with the CM.

There's no magic in the head stamp on the brass...

Idk where you got this, but my lapua 6cm necked down and turned for 22cm holds 51.4gr water weight. Hornady brass is about a grain more.

All those brass brands don't hold a candle to lapua ADG or Peterson.

I tried fireforming 22 cm to my 22-250ai. What's the point of doing it when I can just use a 22 creed and get the same performance?
