215 Berger vs steel plate.

I have shot Red deer in Australia with 300SMK out of my 338 Snipetac out to 850 yards
The deer dropped dead on the spot
Upon opening the chest cavity the lungs, lever and stomach could nit be identified
It was all a great jelly blob as if a small bomb went off inside
Recovered bullet weight was 29 grains
I have also taken deer with my 300 RUM with 210 Berger VLD match
In al cases match bullets work well for me
338 edge 250 grain SMK@3150 1-1/2" cast iron plate 200 yards! Entrance and exit holes 3 gray marks are 168 grain .308 out of M1A1. Bought a 1/2" AR500 steel plate to prove that the 338 would go through it to the local gunshop,(well I had to eat a pride sandwich)!!! Doesn't do much besides splatter the paint off, but sounds like it'd hurt like h—-!!!

Back in the 70s first getting into IHMSA metallic silhouettes l had a guy at work make me a 1/2'' thick Chicken from boiler plate. l shot it regularly with my S&W 44magnum revolver @50meters.. Lots of dimples was the extent of the damage. ln the early 80s Steyer dumped bunches of Luxus and Model Ls on the US market. l saw this beautiful Model L 308Win with full length Manlicher stock. Fell in love with the gun, following me home...Practicing on my home 150yd range l decided to try my luck at Rifle Silhouettes with my chicken. Handgun Silhouettes @50meters shoots the same target as Rifle Silhouettes @100meters. lmagine my surprise at what plain ole factory 150gr Remington CoreLock ammo did to my poor 1/2'' steel chicken @ 100yds. All complete pass throughs. o_O

I have shot a lot of moose bears ect up here with the 210

I switch from 210vlds when Berger came out with the 215 Hybird and have shot nothing but them many long range moose bears brown and black boos wolves ect with them and have not had anything walk away from a first round hit

Completely OT, but I just want to say that Tok has the best water I've ever tasted in my life. :)

They're not cheap these days. I am just wondering what would if it hit the plate after it started to open like it would in a elk.
Well at 600 yards the 250 grain SMK destroyed everything in a 6" circle around it! From the shoulder joint all the way through and out the opposite butt cheek. Taking back straps and tenderloins with it into the NM mountainside!

Has anyone tried welding two mild steel plates to see if that would prevent shooting through the plate?
Yes. I use old farming discs for gongs. Double layer of steel welded into Center were the shaft originally went through. My 300 win with 215 Berger shoots through that at 500 yds. Sometimes even at 700 yds. As does my 6.5 Sherman with a 140 Berger. Doesn't shoot through every time, but it does happen frequently. With the concave shape of the disc I rarely shoot through it.
