2023 Meat Pole

Got another nice Ram on my ranch in NW TX. Not the target ram, but it was tough to pass up when he popped out at 20 yards.

The ram I was after has been seen on camera multiple times. He's pictured below. Not going to say how long I think he is, but it's safe to say he's an absolute tank of a sheep.

That's an absolute hammer. "Yeah, I'll pass on that one" said no one, ever.

West Virginia Bow Kill.
Howdy all, I haven't bow hunted in over 5 years. This year I took my bow to one of my buddies that owns a bow shop.
Asked him to go over my Hoyt Vectrix I bought in 2007 and my Gold tip Expedition carbon arrows. A week later he calls, said everything ready.
He put a new string on the bow and reflect my arrows. Set the poundage on the bow to 55lbs.. This made it much easier to draw back. Practice from August to October, are season opens first of Oct.
Last weekend I put up a new ladder stand.
Today I got in my stand at 0.dark30 at 33*
Like to of froze my a.. off. But I stuck it out. Seen deer all morning, the ruts in .
Little bucks chasing does. A shooter 6 point came in, this deer is 4 to 5 years old,
But only a 6 . Seen him last year.
He came in to 25yds, good distance for me. Pulled my bow back and let that Gold Tip with a 145 Delta Snuffer fly. Can't help but say I made a perfect shot, Double Lung, it went through him so fast he stood there for a few seconds wondering what just happened. Then stumbled around bouncing from tree to tree for about 30yds, fell over sideways.
I sat down shaking, I hung my bow on a hook setting there saying Holy Moly
Thank You Lord. I have shot 50 to 60 deer combined with Bow and Rifle. And it's still just as exciting as my First deer.
Pictures aren't the best but Thanks for taking the time to read this. 😁
Nice

Had a great weekend in Wyoming hunting antlerless elk with two good friends. We made the drive down from Billings late Thursday night and were stoked to see what would be around the next morning.

I spotted a lone calf bedded along a fence line. She was covered in frost and there was no sign of the herd nearby. My friend (who hadn't hunted in 20 years) said he was just looking for great meat and opted to take the calf at 380 yards. He made a great shot with my 338 RUM and the 267 gr HHT.

After loading up, we kept glassing and eventually found the herd up high bedded in the junipers. I was fairly confident we could make a play on them, so we took off up the mountain to find them. Once high enough, we cut across the ridge line to where I felt the elk were. It only took a few minutes before catching the unmistakeable scent of elk. We carefully made our way another 100 yards and soon found ourselves surrounded by elk. My other friend found an opening in the junipers and made a great offhand shot at 80 yards with his 300 WM.

The herd took off and I figured they were all out of there, but my friend noticed two elk standing about 150 yards out. I dropped prone, found them in the scope, confirmed no antlers and let the 338 RUM bark. The yearling dropped at the shot and our hunt was over! 3 elk down in about 3 hours!

West Virginia Whitetail from my farm in the eastern panhandle. Ended up with some Sharptail Grouse and a prairie dog in Montana which helped out on a very tough dream hunt for a mule deer buck. 9 days hunting and biggest buck I saw was a small 2x3. 😐

I posted this in another thread, but here's my bull of a lifetime. 7x7 at 730 yards AMR (downhill) with a 7mm PRC, 175gr ELD-X.
I picked up my European mount today, hand-delivered by my taxidermist from CO to NY! The skull is still wrapped for the 3 hour drive home in the back of my truck. It looks awesome! Now I have to fabricate a no-drill hanger for a collar tie in the great room.
