2023 Meat Pole

I picked up my European mount today, hand-delivered by my taxidermist from CO to NY! The skull is still wrapped for the 3 hour drive home in the back of my truck. It looks awesome! Now I have to fabricate a no-drill hanger for a collar tie in the great room.

very nice bull, i agree, let us know what it scores. if you aren't keeping it secret, where in CO, guided or DIY, OTC or whatever info you'd care to share?

It score 374.3" green. DIY 2nd season OTC with my relatives who live and hunt hard in CO. Elk hunting camp is a once-a-year family get-together. We go up high and back in miles. It's a hard slog for this old lowlander! The drag out was 3/4 mile to the nearest trail.

Super!! so a true wilderness area, no mechanical machines, horse/mule/llama or a foot? i've hunted wilderness since 1982, only way to go IMO.

if you're looking for a way to hang it without drilling the mount, this works great!

Thanks, but I meant one that does not have to be drilled into the collar tie beam. I have steel rod to fab that type of skull attachment, and I am probably going to weld it to flat stock bent into an inverted "U" which will slip over the beam. That will allow me to move it until my wife approves, lol.

Just hang a couple ornaments on it and say it's great for Christmas 🎄. Then it can be that one decoration you notice 2 months later and it's too hard to pack away.

My wife was okay with my bighorn ram. Wasn't too excited about the buck I got last year but I hung it up, it's been there almost a year now. It did get a couple Christmas ornaments this year. I wasn't a fan, but it's still on the wall 😀

The decorating a trophy is a hard no for me. My boss killed some monster mulies in Wyoming. We would go to his house on property to Christmas gathering. The GF at the time would put a red nose on one of the most regal bucks. I'd slip by and pocket the dam thing. Never found out if he caught hell or not but she didn't last...

Now that I got all my mounts in the man cave this non-sense stopped in my house. I'm with you....

The collar tie is all of 13 feet up. The only things that will hang on that mount will be either dust or a flung dog toy.

Agreed. I feel that it shows disrespect for the animal putting decorations on it. Just my opinion
