1000 yard .308

He and Jim the manager had told me they are working up loads for f/tr for the 215 but I recall him talking about 4350. I could see varget as a slim possibility using maybe a 30" tube....

I can fit 49 gr of ball powder without compression. I don't have any h 4350 on hand but figure the kernel size should be the same as Varget? Might be able to make 48 fit in win brass however.

Varget, h4350, and re-17 are all extruded powders of similar sized kernals. However their density varies by quite a bit.

I've been shooting 40 gr of Varget under a 215 and it's yielding 2430fps, very mild pressures with the bullets seated into the lands .020. Load has shot very well to 1450 yards, goal it to use it to work out ballistic programs through transonic then run the load up to get into the 2600 range for hunting. I really am enjoying the 308 with the 215!!!

From what I can gather, it would take around 43 grains of Varget to get the 215 to 2600. I'm not sure that can be done without Palma brass, even in a 30" tube. I will know later on today though, I've got the ammo loaded and a chrony in the truck.

I can't post anything on this iPhone but here's how it shook out. It was slower than I hoped. 38.5 ran 2185 and 42.5 was 2450. It's easy to see where the nodes would be but I still need another 100fps which I won't be able to achieve without running into pressure

42.5 didn't show pressure signs but it wasn't hot today and it wasn't far off.

And again I stand by my advice....I would get a pound of 2000mr and rl17 and give that a whirl. Guarantee you'll see velocity gains. RL17 is fairly temp stable. Not sure on PP but if your in the south and testing now, I'm sure it's near 80. Your only looking at what, a 25 deg temp swing?

2450 with no pressure signs isnt bad, but i too would want more. I personally had a hell of a time getting re 17 to shoot, its most accurate nodes were at 2510 and again at 2730. H4350 has been doing it for me, and i would definitely try N550 if i could get my hands on it.

I'm going to work up to 43.5 in .3 grain increments and see what that gets me. Should get me to 2510 or so and I can live with that.
