300 blackout deer hunting

I've taken six dear with the sub-x, can't honestly say what the sweet spot for expansion is… it's accurate as all get out, but the expansion has not been consistent. I've had 45yrd and 110yrd shots not get over an inch, when a 55yrd and 135yrd looked like a nice baseball size wound channel

I was just having a conversation about taking deliberate 25yrd and 150yrd doe this year to try and see if it's the more or less energy need to make that thing perfect.

The round has been extremely accurate, I can range and dial perfectly out of the Rem Bolt gun, and ridiculously quiet when suppressed.
.. I had honestly bought a case of it, figuring once I knew what the sweet spot was, I'd just stick to that range… had intended to take it out and play with some predator hunting this winter but other things got in the way. (I am now interested in that Makers though)

Get rid of the sub-x, they are horrible hunting bullets. Get you some Maker 200 gr REX bullets, and you will be in good hands. They are the best subsonic hunting bullet on the market, hands down.
 
I've had failures out of both sub X and Makers but with the Makers it was very early in there production and recently the maker has been reliable.

I shoot 125gr Nosler Ballistic tip for supers and have had excellent results.

Edit to say I normally only shoot hogs with subs.

That is exactly the bullet that I'm loading but this season will be my first season to try it on deer
 
I would stay away from 200, 220 gr match bullets, they generally pencil through, I don't have experience with Makers but have killed several with 110 Barnes. I have transitioned to 300 Ham'r for supersonic.
 
Very interested in this discussion as I am just getting into 300AAC/BLK and loving it. Started the project with my nephew and we are mainly into this for a project together, range and carbine matches, reloading, etc.

I want to do the same - deer hunt in our dense woods where clear shots are 0 to 40 yards, maybe out to 100 yards. A guy sold me his brothers reloading stuff for 300BLK after he passed and it included a bunch of 190 SubX. After watching Johnny's Reloading Bench 300BLK series on YouTube, there are videos about SubX and the Makers. The Makers seem like the ticket, they look like grappling hooks when expanded.

May save the SubX for vermin and order the Makers! Looking forward to more info!

I tried the 300BO last year much like you plan to do, at bow distance. I loaded a mag with the Hornady Black 110 VMax, but the first round was a 190 gr. Sub-X. Of course I did my testing and knew the impact a both at various distance and I was shooting suppressed. My reason for this was if I had one hang up at distance I could slowly work the bolt on pickup a Super and reach it with confidence. I needed to fill my doe tags and had 3 come in. The first big one was working down wind of me, so I shot her in the neck with the Sub-X. She dropped in her tracks. The other 2 ran about 50 yards and stopped. Confused by what had just happened, 10 minutes later they walked right back to the feeder. A Hornady 110 VMax blistered through the neck of #2 and dropped in her tracks too. IMO, at that distance, if you don't wanna ruin meat, neck shoot one. It doesn't really matter, they'll all drop right where they stand.
