Need some input on possible re-chamber of my Savage LRH in .260. I'm looking at 6.5x284 or 6.5 PRC. The .260 is very accurate, and I can make brass in a SHTF situation out of any .308 cases available. Also a pleasure to shoot. I'm set up for .6.5x284, but not concerned about a switch to the PRC. I'd just like a little more oomph out beyond 600 yards. Not a hunting arm, just ring and punch. Thoughts?

If it's a long action receiver… you are good to go with 6.5-284. If short action… I wouldn't go that route..

Maybe PRC or SAUM but then you have bolt face change and possible mag issues.

If PRC…Just confirm mag limitations on COAL (if short action) and case width for feeding with short fat cases.
I don't have a short mag in Savage to help with that compatibility.

Keep it the way it is. I have been shooting a 6.5X308 wildcat ( 260 rem ) since 1994. Now have two Savage 260 Rems. Have taken many elk & deer with this cartridge. I use one of the many homogeneous copper bullets. Barnes, Hammer , Bad Lands Precision, etc. Never a problem. I strongly advise against an AI version. Way more trouble & expense involved for the small gain in velocity. Think, think.think , before you alter your rifle.
