You think GAS is HIGH

Oh theres no question pandemic didnt start the **** show. I watched this go down the democratic party argued hard on shutting economy down. But bidens moves is what killed us. We were much better march of 2021 a year into covid then we are now. Side note i live in California and oregon my whole life you can't actually convince me that democrats know what they are doing. Both states are completely fucked and broke. Homeless numbers are a disgrace. Crime rate lol i guess you keep crime rate down if you dont arrest the people consistently making crimes? A state with economy this big with as much taxes they get. We should not be broke…

You mean sell oil over seas and have a net export right? If refineries are full and there not or Brandon wouldnt be going to a third world country (venezuela) and buy oil. Or tap into reserves. What was it again he was proud of 200 million barrels he released? Thats not even enough to cover a day in this country.

October 2020 here in Monroe, GA several weeks before the election Gas was $1.69 at WalMart. Don't know wat it is today but can guess in the high $4.00 range. My truck gets 16 mpg. It's 140 round trip to my Club so over $40 every trip. Jill has 300 miles per week to work getting about 25 mpg = about $60 per week. That's over $3,000 at today's price just to go to work. With gas increasing probably another $600 by the end of 2022. Just gas costs for Jill to go to work what about other travel? That's the least of our costs. Food for us. We are spending more for animal feed.

People on fixed income and retired are really in bad shape. All IRA's and 401Ks have lost over 30%. It is noted that some of the worst days in the Stock Market since the 1930s. People can't retire and those that have can't afford to make payments or live with these inflated prices and have to take part time jobs.
Then we have all the people that don't want to work, only want checks from US Tax Paying Citizens and Brandon give our money away faster than taxes can be collected. The Illegals coming across our Border get free food, clothes, SMART Phones, Plane Travel to whatever city they want, housing, cash jobs or just free US tax payer money.
This is what people voted for in November 2020. Same thing happened in 2008 & 2012. People didn't pay attention back then and now we are almost at the Precipice of Social Collapse.
I admit that I spend a lot on shooting supplies and we do have a supply. It cost us a small fortune when we decided to start the business back up. We counted on our IRA making a limited amount money each year so Jill could retire and need some more funds to finish the equipment costs to properly run our business. The Copper pipe we need for the Compressed air system has almost doubled in the past 18 months. That goes along with copper electrical wire. We are so CLOSE to finishing and having a Top Rated Shop with everything NEW. Just need LABOR and being able to take funds out os an already dwindeling savings account.
Where is & what happened to the AMERICAN DREAM for Small business Entrepreneurs????
We know quite a few business owners that say they don't know how they can make it to 2023.
I've been retired for 7 years. Now with inflation what it is I've had to go back to work. IRA disappearing so fast that I don't think it will last as long as me.

It's hard to determine, we have no idea how long we will live. We don't get the hand outs that the illegal immigrants get, and know that at the rate our bodies are going down hill, we won't be able to work 10 years from now. Thought we were all set,but now we have to spend 3 years retirement every year to keep up with bills.

March of 2020 was just the beginning of the pandemic. Of course it was better.

A coworker and myself had this discussion earlier this week.

What if the US government/citizens built and owned a new refinery. The refinery bought crude on the open market. Refined the crude and sold the gasoline or plastics or whatever back onto the market at a competitive price. Priority being domestic markets. Profits would be used to get National Healthcare and decrease the national debt ONLY. This would be ran by a board of ELECTED OFFICIALS let's say 5 members who had 2 year term limits but could be re elected 3 times max so 6 years service. The books would be open to the public. Maybe sell shares and those shares be available for private US citizens only. Maybe like an oil bond or something.

The idea came from the cities around here that have opened up city owned and operated water parks. Profits from the parks go into the city budget.

I said I don't trust the US government to run a sno-cone stand much less a billion dollar refinery. I also said big oil wouldn't allow it. I also said the greed new deal...I mean green new deal folks wouldn't vote for it.

Thoughts?
I'm all ears. It's definitely an interesting idea. Thanks for putting it out there. Seems worthy of discussion. That said, I am not an expert in oil production by any means.

We were not a year into the pandemic in March 2020. That is when it actually started blowing up. I completely agree with you that the City governments of CA have mishandled homelessness for years, and that liberals/progressives in general have done a horrible job there. But, CA does not receive federal taxes. They're something like the 5th or 6th largest economy in the world and pay much more in federal taxes than they ever receive. They are net positive in federal taxes, where most red states (less populated) are net negative, I believe.

I have read the previous few posts and there is a misconception in regards to refining and what oil gets refined and then where it goes. I am in that side of the business.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is a very light oil, in its natural state it looks like diesel, it is easy to refine, if you have the right process.
Heres the irony, due to increased demand and lower domestic production that began back in the late 60's and 70's the majority of the refineries that were built, and existing refineries that were modified were engineered to refine heavy sour crude that we had to import from Venezuela, West Africa and to some extent the Middle East to keep up with our domestic demand. There has not been a refinery built in the USA in that last 45 years 85% of the existing refineries will not efficiently refine WTI or the Bakken Crude. The Keystone pipeline was being built to transport the heavy crude ( Its actually bitumen not crude oil) form Canada for purpose only, to blend with the WTI to run it through the refineries that are designed to refine the heavy crude. There is Canadian crude being imported now through the existing Keystone pipeline system and couple of other pipeline systems and amounts to about 600,000 barrels a day the Keystone segment that FJB nixed would have added about 800,000 barrels a day. Did you know we export about 500,000 barrels a day of light sweet to Canada as most of their refineries are designed for Light Sweet Crude.
The reason we still import crude from overseas is to the blend with WTI as explained above and to take up the slack from not being able to refine our domestic production. Approximately 70% of the Light Sweet Crude we produce is exported due to the fact that we do not have the refining capacity to refine the Light Sweet Crude. The reason there have not been any new refineries built is due to federal air quality regulations, that have only gotten stricter every decades. In other words you can not get the permits to build a grass roots refinery. There is new technology that meets the air standards and we will see new refineries being built in the near future. A crude oil refinery is not a simple undertaking and takes 2 to 3 years to bring on line, they are huge.
Exxon/Mobil is modifying 2 of the largest refineries in the USA to refine the WTI crude and have invested over 6 Billion to do so, these refineries are in Baytown, TX and Beaumont, TX and should be complete late 2023. These 2 refineries will help but won't fix the issue.
Guess who owns the largest refinery in the USA, Aramco, yep thats right the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Motiva refinery in Beaumont, TX guess who's oil they refine ha ha.
The very last thing you want to happen is for the US Government to take over the oil and gas industry, that would end up as the biggest cluster that has ever existed, private industry is way way more efficient that Uncle Sam can even dream of. Just look how well they handled Health Care, the Covis BS, Social Security, and the real gem Afghanistan.
That's my 2 cents worth like it or don't but that is actually how it works kiddos.

Duckman,

I agree with almost everything you say, however we do not need the government in the oil business. That is a fundamental principle that I will not waver from. We don't need the government competing against private companies.

What we do need is to lower ALL OF THE RIDICULOUS restrictions on oil refineries. We also have a problem even if they did lower restrictions who wants to put money into an industry that Brandon said he wants to kill.

Jim from Tennesee can you please tell us all if you would invest in an industry that your president pledged to shut down.

Well said sir,

Would you agree the fix would be to lessen the restrictions on refineries and give assurances that the FJB types would not be able to hijack their industry again.

I guess those good ol' rednecks need to fire up the stills again!
Corn is up, barley and rye are up, copper is up, gasoline for runners is up, demand is always up when the economy is down---- shine gonna cost you $2-300/ gallon right now--- shiners gonna make some "catch up $" right now since they don't file taxes and couldn't get the government stimulus cv19 cash
