My kid did some work for an oil exec recently. According to him the biggest issue is no way to transport the oil, that is domestically produced, to the refineries. Kinda like guns are useless without ammo, refineries are useless without oil. Stifel the ability to transport crude and we get where we are today. I remember when I was a kid in the 80's and the dems wishing for us to have gas prices like the Europeans. I don't recall high fuel prices ever being an objective of the Republicans or conservatives. It has been for the left. I think it is a huge leap to say that the last administration would have had the same issues with fuel prices and inflation. I think there would have been issues of supply chain due to the shut down of the world economy. Oil is the engine of the world economy. We were a net exporter of oil in 2020. We are now once again an importer of oil. This is not the result of our production staying the same and our demand increasing beyond our capability to produce.
Yes, it is a world economy, and we drive it. Like it or not, US policy controls the world economy. I get to talk with people in diff counties fairly regularly. They lay their problems squarely at the feet of the current administration.
I think I will leave it at that and hope this can stay civil so it doesn't get shut down. Keep it cool fellas, and we might be able to continue the discussion.

What the current administration is doing to the oil companies is the same as an employer working someone 80hrs a week then laying them off, then hiring someone new and giving the new person a raise and a month vacation time. But the new person is 15% as productive as the employee you were paying less and just fired!!
Oil companies are making ridiculous profits right now with the rate barrels of oil are trading at. Why would they produce more to make the populous happy and the administration look good when THEY KNOW that as soon as they stick their necks out the current administration is going to cut their heads off.
You cannot expect an industry to help you knowing that your goal is to shut them down!
This I why defund the police is working so well in those high crime cities. Take the cops away then cry about your car getting broke into!

To add to your statement....
Not only is stifling the ability to transport crude oil by truck or pipeline a major problem but the infrastructure to refine it is about as antiquated as it gets. That money THEY decided to send to the Ukraine sure could have been used to update, upgrade and build new refineries that are more eco friendly and more productive here on American soil.

...I say let's open the books and see what the truth really is...oil is still around $115.00 per barrel but cost has gone up 57%.....send in the IRS, bad enough they don't pay much tax as it is let alone on a windfall and a half !!

Our oil refineries are at 94% capacity. They can't refine the oil they are getting fast enough. What good would it do to try and get more to them faster?
What changed in 2020 to end the US being a net exporter? By the way, Biden was not president in 2020. I will give you a hint. In 2020 the US had the largest reduction in oil production in US history. Oil dropped to $11 a barrel and oil companies shut down wells and refineries.
