Yellowstone’s Grizzly #399 Killed

you can add bicyclists, pedestrians, etc to that list …… 😳
Is this a warning, or a promise?
Just kidding....
I agree that when we have too many predators they do what they need to do to survive and begin to expand their range, so road kill happens. I'm all for having a good balance of predators to prey to keep the prey healthy, but there are starting to be too many bears and wolves in the NW. If it were some other bear that didn't have a name or number, no one would bat an eye and it would barely make the local news.

Lots of interesting thought processes on this thread eh?

Couple more thoughts won't hurt I guess.

First off, I've heard more than a few people mad at the driver. That I can't figure as it's not like they're going out of their way to hit the animal.

I love bears, all of them big, little or small, Black or G bears. Personally I'm glad that they're around and don't share the mentality of "the only good bear is a dead one"...........

If the bruins get into trouble by way of taking out livestock on private land then I have no problem with them being taken out. However if the livestock is grazing on a BLM lease, National Forest (IE public land) then I don't feel that they should be bothered as they're just doing what they were doing years before we all showed up.

I do wish that we'd have a season for them here in Montana. But if it ever happens I hope that they do it via a quota system and not a drawing. That would help sell a lot of licenses and gather a butt load of funds for FWP. As well, the quota would ensure that we get some of them as we'd have some hunters out there that are "predators" and IMO it takes a predator to take out a predator!

Lastly, I hear all the time that we have too many of them I'm not going to address that. I also hear that if we could be hunting them that we'd instill some fear into them. Honestly I don't buy into that thought process as I just don't think we can bother them enough to get them to modify their behavior.

Just one mans thoughts

The only regret I had getting my bull in Wyoming was it was going to feed the 6 bears in and around the section we were hunting. It died in a difficult spot and butchering was as brief as possible to keep safe.

I also live in a tourist/post covid region and can only sympathize with the true westerners living this invasion nightmare. Yes, I would move in a heartbeat. I can plow, shovel, drive, dress in warm cloths without complaining and split wood for fun.

Trade you 100:1-NJ:G bear

The police have already stated the driver did nothing wrong. Not speeding, not distracted just in wrong place wrong time. It's absurd to blame anyone just because this animal was killed by a vehicle. If anything a little compassion for driver is in order. They just got the notoriety of killing the rock star of grizzly's. I bet they are saddened as much as anyone and deserve our sympathy for being the person that unleashed so much wrath at them.
