what are you guys working on this winter? Projects, new guns, new loads?
I'm working on setting up and prepping for load testing with a new rifle.

Picked up my first true "long range " rifle. Christensen Mesa long range in 6.5 Creedmoor. Mounted up a tried and true vortex viper that's proved too be very accurate on 2 other guns. Nothing worse than burning powder and barrel life with a scope that isn't reliable! I'll experiment with the new glass on a very accurate rifle while I'm working out my load on the new gun.

All the goodies too play with! I sized the once fired Hornady cases With rcbs fl dies. The tight chamber of the mesa worked well with the fl die. My Hornady comparator shows my sized case .002 shorter than once fired brass. A piece of .003 foil tape on the case head shows a slight crush fit when chambering a dummy round .
I fully prepped them. Trimmed too 1.920 , primer pockets all cut too uniform depth, de burred inside and out . I then weighed up 50 cases and separated them into 2 groups. Each group was within 1 grain .
Seeing that the Hornady 143 eld-x h4350 combo has been so reliable in lots of Creedmoor it's where I've decided too start with .
Cci br2's have always had a good reputation in this size case and I happen too already have 500 I was gonna run in my 308 win.but with single digit es with federal 210's the cci's have a new purpose.
Next step is priming and charging some cases, seating bullets and putting some bullets down the new bore.
Not like I'm in a hurry. Looks like winter has settled in for a bit! Forecast for the week is single digit temps and wind! If I painstakingly weight each charge. seat each bullet too within .001 each other . at a rate of 5 cases a night I can make 25 rounds last all week

338SS is 2 weeks out then the fun will begin can't wait to sling some 250 Berger's down range. It then again can't wait to try out this sheep season.
Barrel being made up for kimber Montana in a 7SS shooting 175 Berger.
My lightweight pack rifle.

I'm not making any real progress but my winter project is trying to make my first stock by hand for a izhmash biathlon. It is a 7-2 version so has a bad stock. Everyone I have talked to wanted to use the original stock, cut out the inletting and laminate around it, which I won't do as I would like to be able to go back to original configuration possibly.

Also working on a lightweight hunting build for my son off an origin action.

I got some high end rifles so this winter I decided to do a little test trying to see how good I can make a cheap gun shoot. So I have a RPR in 6 Creed, found a nasty load for it with very good SDs and accuracy with 108 eldm. So for the test I am using this RPR I already have in stock configuration with exception of swapping out butt stock. I got another NIB RPR and ripped stock, barrel, and crap rail off of it and replaced with a brand new 24" Proof prefit in 6 creed also, still waiting on the stock and a 15" seekins handguard. Also will be adding a Jard trigger. As of now just waiting on the rest of the small parts and my test will begin. I am not sure I am going to get much better but interested to see how much a 1K stock rifle compares to same gun with 2K in upgrades lol. Stock RPR in first pic, and group from current load, have shot this out to 1K back and fourth several times and is just a laser. Will see how the new one does shortly when remainder of parts show up!!! Will be using same scope back and fourth on them along with boing being suppressed.

Experimenting with an accurate, consistent light-load for my 460 S&W. Using small charges of Unique in a fairly large case seemed to give erratic muzzle velocities. Could easily use Titegroup, which would likely help....but have 8+pounds of Unique to dispose of!

Would also like to "perforate" a lion or maybe a wolf or two! :) memtb

A little of subject but-
Mine likes H 110 and 4227 with 299 and 225 grain bullets. the H 110 pushes the 200 grain to 2400 ft/sec and the 4227 moves the 225's to just over 2300 ft/sec. Recoil is not bad in the X frame Smith and they are death on hogs and deer size game. for the larger stuff, a 300 grain bullet works well.

I am finishing a blue and gray laminate bench rest stock from Richards microfits for my 6.5x284. Savage 110 with Varmint criterion barrel and rifle basics trigger. I also picked up savage 16 in 300 wsm with McMillan a5 stock for a very reasonable price that I will be rebarelling to 7mm saum bartlein Remington Varmint contour.

Just wrapped up a chassis based 6.5x284 for LRH. Having used this style rifle for PRS in 6.5x47, I have taken a liking to the ergonomics of this style rifle for multi positional precision shooting. Thought I would give it s try for LRH, but with a lighter weight(12-13#) compared to my 17# PRS rifle. The weight savings came from the Light Palma barrel, MPA light Chassis, and March 2.5x25x52 scope. The Savage action was smoothed out, and I beefed up the extractor/ejector. PRS rifle(Surgeon/Medium Palma/ ATACR-F1) in 6.5x47 shown at bottom for comparison. This new build balances well, only 1.5# heavier then my "go-to" Cooper, and equally accurate. Interested to see how it works out in the field next season. (Note: typo—-Area "419" muzzle brake, not 429}

Thanks, love the thing....just trying to make it more versatile. I figure it it's cheaper to shoot, and a real ***** cat.....I'll shoot more! I've got the heavy stuff ( 400 grain, wide metplat, hard cast, pushed hard) covered, as well as a pretty good shotshell load, using 444 Marlin brass. Just wanted a good light load for plinking, rocks, prairie dogs, and bunnies! Just cheap, virtually recoil free practice! memtb
