Why no love for the 40S&W?

Even if you could conceal it, your 44 hardcast at that velocity would neutralize the threat, wreck your TV, wound your neighbors dog and have to be dug out of their water heater. To the original question, the 40 is not as popular and is dogged on cause for a lot of people it is just not as enjoyable to shoot especially in a concealable package as the 9mm.

OK I got a little off track. My point is that I don't really see much difference in recoil with the 40 over the 9MM especially if you use +P ammo in the 9. I have a Sig P938 and with +P 9 is not nicer to shoot than the 40.

I give up, How do you know?
That would be due to the call I responded to a little while back and the ensuing autopsy. 4 hits from a 9mm where classified at fatal by the TBI. Yet said drug dealing meth head kept fighting for more than 5 minutes after the first shot. Moral of the story is hand guns suck and always call for backup. 9mms suck. 40s suck less. 10mms suck less than 40s. However, 6 units on the scene in less than 5 mins does not suck.

I don't subscribe to the 9mm magic ********. I've been on admi leave for being forced to Participate in the application of lethal force more times than I'd like to admit. The technology everyone boasts about does not only apply to 9mm. The advancement was across the board. If anything the new tech favors larger bullet diameter coupled with adequate velocity. I've been on the legally correct end of several of these unfortunate situations. And both the ones where 45s and 40s where chunked instead of 9s ended sooner with less hits to stop the target. Yes drugs where involved in all cases. No people don't react the same. But 1 well placed 40 beats one well placed 9. There is no denying that. Only keyboard warrior nonsense.

I think this is correct. Coupled with the fact that nearly no one trains with their gun. People buy guys and stick them their sock drawer and feel protected. Or strap it on their side and fire it twice a year then feel good about themselves and post pro 2A stuff. I am all gun ownership. But I think people should actually train. Not shoot beer cans twice a year at barbecues or static indoor range target shooting. That's not training IMO

I agree, it depends on the gun. If you take a Springfield 1911 EMP and shoot the 40 and +P9mm side by side you would not have to guess which was which. Then at that point it's personal preference. Do like your gal running her fingers through your hair or pulling your hair. There are plenty of people in both camps, but the market says a lot more people don't like getting their hair pulled.

True fact of human nature. Shooting is a perishable skill that is very quickly eroded with pistols especially. In most cases even with previous training, without a good deal of regular situational practice the operator will under perform the cartridge, regardless of the cartridge.

I think your needs are much different than mine. I will most likely never be forced to use a pistol. Im just a regular guy. No doubt that more velocity, weight, and diameter will produce better wounding. For somebody like you that performance is something that you need. For the regular concealed carry guy that performance might be wasted, or that persons requirements might put a different emphasis on their training thus making 9mm a better choice. Different tools for different people and jobs basically.

No people want to talk/only understand theory on here, and numbers on paper. I have had a dozen debates/conversation on recoil management over the years, but people just want muzzle breaks and 6.5 creedmoors or whatever is easy. It's no different with a handgun, people want easy and even if someone was a good shot on the flat range, training is continuous. Range marksmanship and combat shooting is like learning to throw a football in your backyard with a friend vs playing football and learning plays and working the plan. There's some crossover, but it's not the same in the real world.

100% agree

Easy is what it takes for most people. Most guys/gals work 40, 50, 60 hours a week. Kids got hockey and baseball. Have to find time to get strings on the dekes and shoot geese and chase a couple roosters. Local deer hunting and then a trip for speed goats or elk or whatever you could draw a tag for this year. It all takes time and it all takes money. I would bet a good percentage of guys on here had government funded training earlier in life, but the ammo and range time often come in 2nd or 15th place for alotta folks. The 9 is just "easier".

I was banging away at the range and a buddy let me shoot his CZ shadow, wow that was easy

I have built 4 AR Grendels now for myself and for a couple for friends.....I am eager to take the 18" Wilson combat barreled one to Deep Creek and put it thru its paces.....soon
