Why I Crimp

Sounds as if it's Worth trying now I'm at page 17

That's what they say, I'm gonna get one

Yeah, I'm having trouble with ES on a new rifle. Never had that problem before I had a chronograph🤔
But I'm always trying to learn and improve.

Same,

Im gonna try, my ES for my new rifle seemed high and taking all things into account I think neck tension is the culprit. I know this is not neck tension as such but it seems to have a similar affect making the tension consistent and I won't have to jam on the lands. Not desirable in a hunting rifle.
Holler if you need anything

Ol'Red said it best when he said "to get a more even release."That could effect ES I would think.Try it and report CBH.
If it was an expensive tool it would be different but I do think Lee should send Butter Bean a residual check
I will,
I ordered some off eBay yesterday.

Firstly, I want to get best performance from this .280ai but I got one for the .300wm, .7mm-08, .308 and .243 I think.

About $40aud posted, but things but stock is limited so I jumped on them.

Btw, the ..280ai and .280win are actually the .7mm express crimp die. For this purpose.

I also replied to a question on the hammer thread discussion around crimping.

Yes, Lee should pay Leigh a residual check for promoting their product.

I don't buy much Lee gear but many people are sold on their dies,🤔

epags and ButterBean you both were right.
Got my ball mic in and checked virgin RP brass and it was terrible.
Loaded and shot same brass 2 times and readings were much better.I have shot my best group in my 300 win mag with RP brass(Cheap Brass) so I will use RP and Hornady brass until they won't hold a primer and start using my brand new Lapua and Peterson Long brass.
Problem solved!
CBH I use their FCD and 308 dies,6.5 Grendel but use a Redding bushing die to set neck tension and mandrel use.I like em

You have more restraint than I my friend. The day I got my Peterson long was the day my R-P brass went in a zip lock bag and was put aside. It's sort of like pouring a glass of Evan Williams when you have a bottle of 23 year old Pappy Van Winkle staring you in the face. No offense meant to fans of Evan Williams.

Reloading is one of those activities that more you are exposed to really good information, experienced and "reliable" reloaders, you realize what you don't know and why your equipment needs to be upgraded. Its one of those dilemmas on how far do you go to load the "perfect" round versus the actual capability of your rifle and yourself. The loose nut behind the stock being the limiting factor!😂

Hey! I will be gracious and take the Evan Williams off your hands! You can toss in the RP brass if you want too!

Yeah, we always say " The Nut behind the Butt"
On the field I do ok,
On the range, yeah, I'm trying to to hone my skills and knowledge.

I'm not doubting my rifle, but it is a Hunting rifle.
The technique needs improvement but taking doubts about the ammo out of the equation is important.

For me,in the field I don't have time to tense up so I do very well but at the range I have to make myself untense and relax before I try for groups.
My 300 win mag with my reloads has shot a slightly less than 3/8 of an inch group but doing it over and over requires me to relax and not tense up.
Everyone is different so you will have to find what works for you but ole buddy you are headed in the right direction.
When you start using your FCD go back and read some of ButterBeans post on how to best use the FCD,it made a difference to me.

+1, which then proves the loose nut is the problem! Its never my equipment. Somedays you just don't have whatever it takes. I won't make ANY changes until I shoot again. IF the results are the same then I probably need to adjust. The real issue for me is what caused the "change"? Sometimes that can be the proverbial rabbit hole.

I love to drink my morning coffee but I also know don't shoot afterwards! Coffee hits me hard but dang it tastes good in the morning!
