What's your elk rifle?

Ruger No. 1, in a 338 win. mag 185gr. ttsx.

Curious if you have ever recovered a 185ttsx from an elk? Those bullets sure perform at high velocities. I have shot elk with both the 210 and 225 TTSX (both .338) but only recovered a couple of the 210's from a buddy's elk.

light weight 338 NM,26'' braked , Defiance,Lonewolf summit,ABS.Backup heavier version all same componenets,w Lonewolf tact 2 and ACI 5rnd.

I've got two as well

300wm
Stiller tac 300, manners mcst, 27, broughton 5c rem varmint contour, ptg bottom metal
230 berger at 2875

On the way from my smith in approx 3 weeks

338 Lapua rogue IMP 37 degree shoulder
Stiller tac 338. manners 100% carbon fiber T5, 28" broughton 5c rem varmint contour, weatherby internal center feed box with hinged BDL floor plate. I also have a mcree folder chassis with CIP length AI magazines that I can swap this rifle into depending on "mission requirements" ha ha. I plan to shoot the 285 amax I also have some berger elite hunter 250gr. The speed with these "lighter" bullets should make for a super flat shooting round out to about 1200yds. If my calculations are correct the 250gr at 3200 fps should only need 19moa to 1000yds. Now that is flat!

This is the same approach I'm going to take with my 338 RUM for elk... an absolute hammer out to maybe 1200. Comparing the numbers of the 300 vs the 250 Elite Hunters out to the 1000-1200 range and I see the advantage going to the 250 for the flatter trajectory.

I have three:

1. 338 WM, Mod 70 Leupold 3x9 - 250 Grain Nosler Partitions, This is my second 338 WM Mod 70 and it will get a Kevlar stock before I go out with it. Previous one had Kevlar stock
2. 300 WM, Mod 700 Leupold 3x9 - 180 Grain Nosler Paritions, fiberglass stock
3. 350 RM, Mod 600 1x4 scope - 250 grain Hornady Spire Point - 20 inch after market Barrel, Kvlar stock, custom floor plate, and trigger

I use the 350 in thick woods, 338 WM most of the time and have the 300 RM as a back up rifle and/or in more open areas.

Just for elk, I use a Weatherby mark V in .30-378 Weatherby Magnum. My scope is a Nikon MONARCH 3 2.5-10x42 Matte BDC. I won this rifle a few years ago in a Safari Club raffle.

My "hunt everything else" rifle is a Rem 700 ADL in 30-06 with a Burris Fullfield 3x9-40. I bought this rifle when I was in high school as my own graduation present. I restocked it with a Remington synthetic stock about 10 years ago.

I can't help notice a lot of you like some heavy weight cartridge, but for me the best elk gun is the one I have in my hand when I see an elk. Usually a 30-06 or 270.
