What state for big deer and good seasons?

The first time I ever passed up a legal buck was Applegate ML season here in so Oregon. Sealed the deal on a nice 4x4 a couple days later. Easy draw and is during the rut.
I have shifted primarily to archery to hunt the rut locally.
Thinking about Wyoming next year for something new.

Got my first antelope there last year at 615 yards

I think you had better hang up the rifle in Oregon if you want to hunt the rut....
I early season hunted elk....passed up way more I had arrows for...but got to see some huge blacktail during early elk season....
Then I statted chasing the blacktail rut.....late archery starts in southern Oregon and runs north as lower units close....killed my biggest east of ashland....148"......
Saw bigger up in canyonville area....and saw bruisers up around Eugene area and sweet home and then mount hood......
Just gotta pick your poison.....and there are late coastal blacktail archery and mzldr seasons.....had a monster within 20 yards...but the yearling he was sniffing took off like a jet...and as I would..he followed.......tail is tail........
I passed up a lot of bucks looking for a wall hanger coastal blacktail...saw several...just couldn't finish the deal......even saw a huge buck hit by car in Medford area....died under a guys deck.....i scored that buck 156"....i passed him up the year before....just up from the guys house.....

Thanks for the heads up. I hunt unit 15. Last big deer I shot here was a 4×3 9 years ago and a real big 5×4 the year prior. Looks like i need to start looking south a bit. Im still open to heading out of state as well so keep the suggestions coming.

We hunt with rifles through January 31 here in Mississippi...lots of really nice whitetail...especially in the counties along the Mississippi River...not the body size of the Midwest, but 160-170" not unusual at all- and much more liberal season. I don't know, but I would think relatively inexpensive also. Check it out

Before you start laughing too hard take a good look at Kentucky! Our whitetails can hang. Good seasons and not too pricey. As a state we rank #5 on the B+C records.
We hunt the rut and the weather is like moderate..

Laugh, r u kidding. People in the know about big whitetails know about KY. I have never hunted there but planning on it soon. one of my co worker friends is looking at purchasing land their as he is a whitetail freak. So no laughing about KY . KY hangs in with the big boys of Iowa, Kansas, Illinois, Wisconsin.

Yes Kentucky! Yes Mississippi! Black belt of Alabama is about the same deal as Mississippi, just an extension eastward. I'm not sure about the tag and season particulars , but Nebraska is seldom talked about, but has monster whitetails too. Not many places left that dont get alot of attention if they have big bucks, but off the radar picks for me would be Mississippi and Nebraska.

Don't forget Oklahoma there might be a new world record bow kill there an 8 x 8

Im starting to think about geting out of Oregon to hunt deer next year. Looking for recomendations on states that have good populations of mature deer. Mule deer or white tail. Also over the counter tags and a season that runs through the rut. Here in western Oregon the black tail are sneeky elusive and often small. Get a shot at a legal buck take it cause another opportunity probably wont come around. Our season ends at the end of October or very beginning of November. Just before rut. I hear about people in other states passing up deer and or seeing multiple bucks in one day. I want in on some of that action. Not the 28 days of hunting to shoot a forky that I'm used to.
Texas, very diverse and trophy hunts for every price range!!!!

Oklahoma is about the same is Kansas as far as big bucks go. I have some buddies that hunt Kansas every year they can, but when they cant, they hunt right across the line in Oklahoma. Only down side is , according to them, the oky cowboys like shooting big bucks from their truck windows, so the big boys are either on a wall or scared into 3am feedings and doe chasing.

That's a crazy whitetail. I bet B&C will figure out a way to bust it down. Even though the rack looks to be very typical, an 8x8 is not typical for a whitetail rack. It will have to be panel scores if it's a possible new record. Panels are brutal!

I just got sick up and fed with the 3-little pigs (aka hunting the USA). Too many yahoos in the field, game herds in shambles from decades of mismanagement, fire devastated habitats, insane trespass fees, insane trophy fees, guides that nickel and dime you to death, extortionist license and tag fees, insane taxidermy charges...

I found that you can hunt in South Africa for less than you can hunt in the USA for, it's not just taking your gun for a walk and you have a TON more fun.
